Monae's POV 💙
Sunday
Ughhh.
I groan, face planting on my bed. It was Sunday and also the day I invited Levi over.
Maybe I can cancel.
"Vrrr, vrrrr".. raising my head to look at the phone, I saw Levi was calling. Speak of the devil, accepting the call I sat up.
"Morning beautiful, just wanted to know if I had to bring anything later?" he beamed, at least someone is in a good mood.
"A bottle of wine from the restaurant would be nice" I smirked.
"I'll run out of stocks dealing with you Mo" he chuckled.
" What? Not my fault you have all the good stuff" I laughed.
"Are you sure you're ok with this Monae? I don't want you to force yourself to do something you're not comfortable with." He stated seriously.
"Honestly, I'm not but you mean a lot to me Lee and I want to try, I can get over shit if I don't at least try" I sighed.
"Well I feel honored to be your test subject Mo" he chuckled "I have to head down to the restaurant; I'll catch you later. Don't miss me too much" he winked.
"Goodbyee Cairo" I laughed ending the call.
After talking to Cairo, I felt a lot better about today. He's a close friend and he wouldn't do anything to hurt me, I reassured myself. Getting out of bed I headed for the shower before making breakfast. I had to head down to the supermarket to get some groceries.
2 hours later
Looking down at the list on my phone I saw my snacks were the only thing remaining. Pushing the shopping cart down the aisle, I stopped at the shelf with the Cheetos and stood on my tiptoes to reach, I froze at the feel of a hard body lightly pressing against my back and a hand came into my vision collecting the snack I was reaching for.
Spinning around to tell the person off, the words died on my lips at the sight of Nasir smirking down at me.
And what a beautiful sight it was.
"Mr. King" I acknowledged, outstretching my hand for the bag of Cheetos, but furrowed my brows when he pulled it out my reach.
"I'm sorry, were you reaching for one also?" he asked innocently as I glared at him.
I know this nigga saw me struggling to get that.
"Yes, and the one you're holding is mine" I pouted causing him to laugh.
"Here you go Monae, what kind of man would I be if I saw you here about to climb the shelves and didn't help?" he passed me the pack.
"The kind that minds his own business" I mumbled out and collected the bag placing it in the cart, as he stood there observing me.
"Is there a problem sir?" I asked as his stare unnerved me, I felt as if he could see right through me to my deepest, darkest parts.
"You having a party?" he licked his lips, ignoring my question.
"No, just a little dinner for two" I smiled.
"Boyfriend?" he asked looking away, as I stepped up to him.
Damn, he smelt good.
"If you want to know if I have a boyfriend, all you have to do is ask Nasir" I purred his name and smirked as his eyes darkened when his gaze returned to me.
"Monae" he gritted out as he stepped closer.
"Sir?" I bat my lashes looking up at him innocently.
"Don't start something you won't be able to finish" I felt his hand slip around my waist pulling me flush against him as his scent invaded my nose and I resisted the urge to sniff him.
"If there is one thing you should know about me.." I paused, running my fingers up his chest before looking up to see his eyes closed and jaw clenched " Is that I always, finish" I whispered close to his lips before stepping back out of his hold and collecting my shopping cart, walking away.
" Have a great day, Mr. King" I called out laughing.
Nasir's POV 👑
"Have a great day, Mr. King" I heard Monae call out as she walked away laughing while I stood there looking stuck.
Snap the f**k out of it, King.
I shook my head and followed behind in the direction she went while reminding myself to keep things professional between us, Monae Lockhart was trouble. After Isla the last thing I want is trouble, I refuse to go back to the place I was. Seeing her exit the store, I approached.
"Let me help you, Ms. Lockhart" I offered to carry her bags.
"Oooh, back to professional titles are we?" she smirked, handing me the bags and walking up to her car.
"I think it would be best if we kept things professional between us, don't you think?" I watched as she popped the trunk, then she stepped aside for me to put the groceries inside and shut the trunk. Not hearing a response from her I stood up straighter and faced her to see a distant look in her eyes as she stared at me, but it seemed like her mind was somewhere else.
Did I say something wrong?
"Are you ok?" I stepped closer with raised hands with the intention of touching her but stopped when she flinched and stepped back with a frightened look that quickly vanished as her eyes refocused on me before widening.
"I-I'm sorry if I overstepped Mr. King, I assure you I will remain professional moving forward." She rushed out with a forced smile as she quickly walked around me to her door, got in, and drove off leaving me there shocked.
What the f**k just happened?
Oop, looks like Nasir caught a glimpse of a different side of Mo. Or is that the real her and what she shows everyone is just a façade?
Till next time, thank you for reading. 😊
