CHAPTER TWELVE
  _CHEESE BALLS & CHAPMAN_

Diamond looked at me inquisitively before sighing. I wondered if she had anything against me meeting Lilian.

"Okay, if you say so". Stephanie dismissed me.  I walked as fast as I could in order to meet up with Lilian. You could hardly find her in her classroom so once you get to find her you have to hold her down. If you understand what I'm saying.

"Lilian, Lilian". I screamed her name already out of breath. I wondered how she could walk so fast. She paused and turned around trying to know who called her name. I screamed her name again then a wide grin spread across her dark skinned chocolate face.

"Oh Jason's friend". She exclaimed. I rolled my eyes for the umpteenth time that day.

"It's Riele". I corrected still trying to catch my breath.

"It's being a while. How are you?". She asked without acknowledging my correction.

"Yeah, I know. I'm fine though". I simply replied.

"Okay then, what's up?". She asked as her hands went akimbo.

"Actually we need to talk". I said almost at the same time folding my arms.

"Alright, let's go to my class we can't be standing in the middle of the hallway like we own it". She concurred and dragged me by my left arm to her class. Walking into SS3 class was like walking into the opposite of my class. The desks were arranged in the same formation my class desk were arranged the only difference was that they were facing the opposite direction. As I was walking down to Lilian's seat I became very self- conscious about my body, I lowered my head. I wish I could walk a little faster but Lilian who was in front of me decided to walk majestically; her head was held up high, eyes straight as she sashayed to her seat. Sometimes I wondered where she got her confidence from.

"Sit here". She said tapping her desk for me to sit while she sat down on her seat in a queen-like manner. She opened her bag and took out a pack of cheese balls alongside a bottle of chapman.

"You want some?" Lilian asked as she stretched her left hand which held the pack of cheese balls.

"No thanks". I refused the offer, I had important things to talk about other than sharing a snack.

"Okay, so you said you need to talk, shoot". She said and took a sip from her drink.

"Okay. How do I start now, I'm just wondering how you are so confident?" I knew the question sounded dumb but I was going somewhere.

"Are you sure that's what you came here to ask me about?" She inquired eyeing me suspiciously.

"That's not exactly what I came here for but let's start the conversation from this angle". I shrugged and adjusted myself on her desk.

"Okay then. Can you explain your question because I don't understand what you mean?".  She asked and  shove cheese balls into her mouth.

"I'm sure you know people criticize you a lot because of your body, they call you 'the short fat Lily'. I just wanted to know how you manage to shut off the side- comments and then act like you didn't give a damn to what they say about you. I don't know if you get what I'm saying or maybe I'm just blabbering". I blurted within a minute.

"I understand what you are saying, to reply your question  I don't let it get into my head". She answered although her eyes didn't meet mine when she was answering me. I knew immediately that she was lying.

"We both know you are lying. Just tell me the truth maybe you could help me. I'm also getting mean comments about my body and it's really driving me crazy." I told her, I just needed a way to get past that stage. I was tired of crying all night and wishing my body was like other girls.
