Tubbo POV
I don't know who wrote all those stories where the royalty is all shitty and snobby, but whoever they were, they fucking lied.
Or maybe they'd just never met (Y/n) before.
But either way, I had never been more misled in my entire life. The past three days, a former queen had been sleeping on the hardwood floor of my bedroom with only a bag and a blanket.
I would have thought she was mute if I hadn't been at the masquerade to hear her speech. She almost never talked, keeping to herself the whole time. She had arrived on our doorstep late in the night, almost 2:00 AM when a faint knocking sounded through the halls.
The debate on whether or not she should stay lasted almost another hour, Tommy refusing to leave her outside and Wilbur insisting they kick her out. (Y/n) herself had piped up to suggest she just go, but both boys had snapped at her to shut up. After that, she retreated to the kitchen silently and followed me around for the rest of the night.
On the third morning since her arrival, I had woken up earlier than usual. I tiptoed around a sleeping (Y/n), trying not to wake her up as I headed downstairs for breakfast. I made my way to the sun-dappled kitchen, early morning light streaming through the windows as I rummaged through the pantry for something to eat. I ended up pulling out a couple of biscuits, still soft from Niki's bakery.
I spread some homemade honey over them while humming to myself, but I fell quiet when I heard footsteps drawing closer.
"I still don't understand why we've kept her here." Wilbur's voice was deeper than normal, and I figured he had just woken up. I took the first bite of my biscuit and stepped closer to the doorway, hoping to hear their voices more clearly.
"It's common hospitality, Will," Tommy argued. "We can't just leave her out on the streets."
"But we can! We absolutely can. She's the goddamn queen of the Dream SMP, there is no reason she can't run on home to her fucking castle."
"Dream dethroned her!" Tommy's voice rose in volume, and I could practically see him using his hands to speak. "She came to us because she needed us. And we need her too! She probably knows all about their military plans and such."
I hopped up on the island counter, swinging my legs as I studied the patches of light on the floor tile. The little stained glass birds hanging from the window panes fractured the sun rays, creating rainbow specks all over the ground. I took another bite of my biscuit as their conversation continued.
"It's not like she's a spy or something," Tommy assured with amusement in his tone, as if he couldn't even imagine it.
They sounded closer than I had previously thought, just on the other side of the wall.
"And you know that how?" Wilbur insisted.
This time, Tommy outright laughed. "Because, Will. They wouldn't send some as fuckin' obvious as (Y/n). They'd send someone you could actually trust," He reasoned, his logic undeniable.
"Exactly," Wilbur hissed. "That's what they'd want you to think! They'd get in your head and make you believe it's too obvious, there's no way, and then bam! Surprise, she's a traitor. Besides, you really think twins turn on each other that easily? C'mon, Tommy."
"Yeah," Tommy shot back. "But no one else thinks like you, Wilbur. No one else is so fucking paranoid they can't trust anyone unless they take a fucking bullet for you!"
"I don't trust her. And if you're going to keep defending her like this, then I'm not sure I can trust you either," Wilbur declared, and I sucked in a breath.
