Sapnap POV
I rapped on the door to the King's chambers, glancing about the unfamiliar hall. The walls were bland and bare, slightly dusty from being closed off so many years. There hasn't been a king in a while.
But of course, the very first thing on Clay's royal to-do list was to move in, getting quite comfortable on his throne.
A sharp voice sounded from inside the room, telling me it was okay to enter. I rolled my eyes, striding into the room. "Your Royal Majesty," I mocked, voice pitched a couple octaves higher than usual.
Clay spun around, an emerald green tie slung on his shoulders. He rolled his eyes when he saw me, the corners of his lips twitching upwards.
"Sapnap," He greeted. "Your voice seems a bit lower than normal today."
"Okay, rude. That was uncalled for. Um, what did I do to you?" I faked a pout, placing an exaggerated hand over my heart.
Clay sighed. "What didn't you do, Sap?"
"Find (Y/n)," I countered, raising my eyebrow in a simple question Clay pretended not to understand. "Dude, where did she go? It's been days."
His face fell, any traces of amusement disappeared. In fact, his entire expression turned to stone, his eyes darkening and looking away. He turned back to his mirror, fiddling with the edges of his tie.
"Clay. Man. Where is she?" I repeated, leaning against the far wall.
"I don't know," He replied, terse.
"Okay, well, considering the way you're acting right now, you do," I pressed, unrelenting.
The muscles that lined his shoulders tended as he refused to turn around. It was my biggest pet peeve, talking to people's backs, and he knew it. Fucking Clay.
"Hey. Turn around and talk to me, 'kay? You can tell me anything," I huffed, growing more and more annoyed by his inaction.
"I don't know where she is, Sapnap," Clay insisted. "You think she'd tell me?"
Hm. Good point. But something seemed off; he had to know something.
"She didn't tell you anything? Nothing at all?"
Silence hung over the room. I waited patiently with my arms crossed for him to crack and spill. It didn't take too long if you knew what to say.
"L'manberg," He gritted out, making absolutely zero sense.
"What?"
"She said," He clarified, words coming out harsh and staggered. "She was going to L'manberg."
"What?"
He nodded silently, the reflection of his emerald eyes as sharp as the actual jewels.
"(Y/n), our (Y/n), your sister, ran away to fucking L'manberg? With, like, Wilbur and them?" I rambled, surprised, to say the least.
"Yes, Sap. She told me-" He cut himself off, plunging the room into a fragile quiet. The kind where so much as a wrong look could make it crumble into tiny shards, sharp and dangerous.
"It doesn't matter," Clay amended, steeling himself. "She was just bluffing."
"She was?" I asked, incredulous and hopeful.
"Yes," He assured me, but his voice wavered. I said nothing, and he kept talking. "I could see it. She does that thing where she spits insults to cover up the lie. And she won't really look you in the eye. Turn away fully, if she has to."
