Lucy spent her break at her spot under the dock. The pain in her leg was gone, thanks to the joint. When it was time to walk back to work Lucy found JJ with another boy in front of The Wreck. JJ pushed himself off the wall he was leaning at as he saw Lucy. Lucy walked just past him.
"Luce..." JJ started.
"I have to work." Lucy cut him off.
"But it is important."
"Yeah, so is money. I need to earn to find a roof for my head." Lucy bit her tongue. She didn't want to drop that.
"How do you mean?"
Lucy rolled her eyes. "I have to work, JJ. If you want anything you have to wait till I'm done." Lucy walked into the restaurant, followed by JJ and the other boy. The girl walked in to changing-room. "Really? You wanna be sicko, who follows young girls into the changing-room?" Lucy said, only for JJ to hear.
JJ backed up. "Sorry, I'll wait in the booth."
"You really do want to wait till I'm done working." Lucy said in astonishment and JJ nodded. JJ walked back in to the restaurant, climbing into the booth.
"Really?" The boy asked. "We gonna wait? It's Friday."
"I don't know about you, Pope. But I'll wait. I have to find out." Pope sighed at JJ's words and sat on the other side. "Where's Kie?"
"How the hell would I know?"
"I just thought you were macking?"
"Oh, JJ. We have a lot of catching up to do."
Lucy walked back in, stopping in her tracks as she saw the two boys in the booth. She slightly shook her head. Why even? Why would they bother?
"JJ? Pope? It's been a while since you two were here." Mike said as he walk to them, getting their order. JJ scratched the back of his head.
"Mr. Carrera, yes. Lot's to do lately." Pope answered in a very polite way.
"I see, I see. What you like to order?"
"We'll have two Coca-Cola's and two burgers with fires, please." Pope answered again. JJ didn't feel comfortable around Kiara's dad. But that's only because JJ knows what her dad thinks of Kiara hanging around the boys.
"Alright, will be with you in a bit." Mike answered and walked back to the bar, where he found Lucy wrapping herself an apron around her waist. "Can you take the drinks to the boys?"
"Yeah, sure." Lucy filled up the glasses and put them on the tray, as Mike walked into the kitchen to get the meals done. The TV was running. News. Lucy started walking, but the man on the television caught her attention.
"John Booker Routledge and Sarah Cameron found alive on Outer Banks! Both of them were spotted at Routledge's house. Police arrived as soon they got the call. They arrested Routledge for murder, murder attempt and abduction. Miss Cameron is safe and sound with her family. Two female police officer are the house with her. She'll be questioned about her abduction. Mr. Cameron will talk to the press once everything is alright with his daughter."
Lucy stood there. Frozen. The tray with the glasses slowly slipping through her fingers. With a loud splash the tray fell onto the ground, leaving Lucy's shoes covered in Coca-Cola. Lucy forgot how to breathe. She just stared at the TV. The pictures of her brother, the girl, the house he lived in and the girl's dad were already gone, but Lucy couldn't turn her eyes away. Her knees weakened and sank to the ground. Right into the mess. Lucy didn't care about the sticky liquid. Her fingertips dug into her legs. She needed to breathe. But how? Her chest tightened. It felt like her heart would stop at any second. Before everything went black around her she recognised the boy's picture form the TV. Lucy met him already. She did see her brother in person. Yesterday. She saw her brother yesterday. And with that peaceful thought her heart skipped a few beats.
