He sat in his cell waiting... Time had slowed down or maybe it was going too fast. He was dreading the moment when a friend would come and become an enemy. The funny thing is all of TI knew he was an ANBU captain which meant that they would use enough force to break an ANBU captain. A loyalty investigation was enough to break most shinobis, ANBU members were different: They were trained to endure most interrogation tactics, so it wasn't really the investigation that broke them. It was the fact that Konoha thought of them as traitors.
Footsteps echoed in the hall next to his cell... The first in ages, he had already started to forget the concept of time as the light in his cell had been on for the entirety of his stay.
He didn't look up when the door opened, nor when he was dragged out of the cell.He was then, unceremoniously, dumped on a cold metal chair. A huge bucket of water was placed in front of him. It was laced with mud, leaves, and other things you could find in pond water. His interrogator entered the room alone, he walked slowly, methodically. His hands were gloved and his face was hidden with a pure white mask. So they sent ANBU's internal interrogation force. It was a lot worse than he anticipated. TI would have been endurable, but the legendary and mythical "blank legion" wasn't. They were the police inside of ANBU, you met them very rarely and if you did it always ended very badly for you.
"Genin Uzumaki Naruto, you've been accused of treason by your commanding officer: Jonin Hatake Kakashi. The length and comfort of your stay will depend on your willingness to cooperate with our investigation" His voice cut through our hero's confused thoughts: why was the Interrogator addressing him as Naruto instead of Fox... And if this was addressed as a Genin loyalty investigation why were they sending a member of the ANBU internal police?
After a few dozen dunks in the bucket, he was starting to be a lot less coherent. His thoughts ran havoc in his mind. His host still hadn't asked a single question... He had just kept repeating what Fox was accused of... "Treason", this word was going to lose any meaning if he continued to accuse our hero of it.
"What have you got to say for yourself?" The question came so suddenly that the young captain almost answered immediately. But he knew better than to jump at the chance to hear anything else. He wasn't a traitor but they thought he was so he had to play his cards right or he would spend eternity inside of the ANBU interrogation cells.
"I'm not a traitor, I've never harbored any I'll feel for my country and my village. I've done my best to serve my Hokage with everything in my power" it was an ok answer, idealistic and maybe a bit too patriotic for a Genin. At least it didn't break his cover. He was almost relieved when he wasn't dunked back into the bucket but it was shortlived as his jailer started talking once more.
"Who do we trust? The kid who was seen playing with a foreign ninja or the respected, ex-ANBU captain, Jonin sensei with a permanent entry in the bingo book..." The voice was monotone like it didn't matter what Naruto could answer. Anything he said would just incriminate him further. There was only one way to solve this... Our hero took a deep breath and told the interrogator:"If you don't believe me, steal my memories, prove the legends true and make justice be heard"
