Chapter Thirty-Four: The Special Mission

AN: This chapter contains mention of torture, if you're not in a place to read this please don't force yourself and know that though those scenes are important for character development they're in no way mendatory to read to understand that our hero is in a bad place

Our young hero found himself in his superior office and did his best to stay calm as he was presented to a while lot of strategists from all over Konoha. He was showed maps, warplans and a whole lot of different faces to recognize. His mission was a simple catch and bring back. He was to retrieve a target that was known as target sigma 5. He had not yet been briefed on the name of his target but he was sure it was vital for konoha so he didn't think too much about it.

As he put his anbu armor once more in one of konoha's many armory he wondered what had been told to Kakashi. He couldn't think that they would have made a mistake so big as to not tell Kakashi he was leaving for a mission. He decided not to think much more about this and concentrate more on the mission on his hand.

He had been told his teammate would meet him here and they would both head out together to the drop point where they'd find the scroll containing their mission. As he walked in the calm forest next to the secret ANBU exit he felt a presence and turned to see another ANBU captain, deer, he presumed from the shape of the mask, he greeted the ANBU captain with a quick nods and the series of handsigns that was today's code.
The young ANBU captain unmask themself to show his friend, Shikamaru...

"You can unmask, fox. We're to go there dressed as ANBU but with blank masks because our target might need to see us unmasked and the higher ups don't want to us to be discovered as 2 high ranking anbu captains." He said with his characteristic smirk.

"You found the scroll with the mission details or not yet?" Our hero asked, tired already from all the sleepless nights he had had in the past couple days.

"Not yet, I thought it would be best to wait for you so we would be two searching instead of just me"

"You were lazy" Naruto said with a foxy grin. "Nevermind, let's get back to searching for this stupid scroll"

As he said those words he went back to mission mode and decided to look for the scroll fast so he could sleep sooner.

As they finally found the scroll their hands touched and Naruto felt a little something in his chest, which he pushed way down hidden in a corner of his head. Feelings had no place in this world of his. Yet even though he tried not thinking about it too much his hand was still tingling from the contact. The sentiment fleeing as he felt worse and worse. He was taken back to the interrogation room was more.

"You know, kid, you could make all this stop in a couple of words... We just want to know more about Iga and your ties to this small Village. We don't even need you to tell us you're in love with the young Hitami. We won't bring any harm to her if you tell us all you know about Iga. Her life is worth so much more then yours... You still don't want to talk ? Okay, then" As our interrogator was talking he would take the pliers once more and slowly but surely grip them around his victims fingers and calmly break them. The noise was sickening and though most people would be distraught by the pain, the worst, in Fox's opinion, was the noises.

After a couple of his fingers were broken, 4 to be exact, they had been laid flat and bandaged together to be held straight and heal somewhat ok. That was what our hero was hanging on to. The idea that his fingers had been set straight so he could use them again later. Ghost were meticulous in making sure you could come back to active duty once they cleared you. And it was his only hope. That they would finally realize he was doing his best.

"Fox, fox, kami-sama, Naruto !" He heard the screams before his eyes opened again.

"Can you hear me, blink once if you can" Our young hero blinked and did his best to stand up... He could see the worry in shikamaru's face and groaned

"What happened?"

"Your eyes glazed over and you stopped responding... So I started calling your name? But you didn't answer. So I did what I thought best and laid you down and kept on calling you."

"I'm ok now... Best read that mission scroll now and get to it"
