RUBY
His head jerked in the slightest. I wouldn't have caught it if there was no source of light, but thanks to the deck lights I did.
"How could I not?" He muttered, lifting his head that seemed to be heavy on his shoulders. He looked so exhausted.
Now that I'm mentioning it, he always looked exhausted.
I sidled up beside him, mimicking his stance. An inch or two separated our arms that held up our weight as we leaned against the railing.
The lights in the pool that I assumed were on for all hours of the day made the aqua color of the chlorine intensify. It illuminated our faces and faded out the deck lights.
The ripples and delicate waves in the pool casted a shadow onto our bodies, our arms and faces covered in the motion of the water.
Wooden chaise lounges lined either side of the oddly shaped pool and a grill and seating area were in the far back where a shed laid claim.
The back side of his house was equally enthralling as the inside.
I'm walking on rich people territory.
I hate the feeling.
"You didn't seem too fond of it the last time." I shrugged lazily. I don't even think he noticed it behind his droopy eyelids and thick lashes.
His eyes usually looked like that. He had the 'I hate you and everybody in this fucking place' plus the 'i look like i haven't had a good night sleep in eons' eyes.
Though he seemed to be fighting the drowsiness in them this time. Usually that's how they sit. Only half of his vivid green eyes visible, the rest being his eyelids.
"A little birdie told that I should appreciate it more. Actually they told me that I should appreciate the finer things in life, like..." He gestured to the moon.
I smiled.
He listened to me.
He's always been good at that.
"This persons seems wise." I joked.
"Hardly." He inspects his hands, fingers bare except for one with a silver ring on it.The one with the little engraving. I'm still not close enough to see what it says. "If you call wise verbal diarrhea then..."
I glared at him and shoved his shoulder playfully. He chuckled and I joined him only a few seconds later.
Hilarious.
"Spoken like a true comedian." Obvious sarcasm.
"You should stop saying that before I make comedian a possible career choice."
