RUBY

I stood stiffly on doorstep of Aspens house. The slight evening breeze caressing any exposed skin and the suns last beam shining down on Aven and I.

My body was at ease but my mind was running 100 miles per second. Memories that were tucked far away now out from hiding.

The last time I was here I was alright because I didn't have to step foot in the place. But now knowing I'll be spending the night here has me on edge.

This is definitely not taking my mind off things...

I mean, maybe if I steer clear from upstairs then I'll be just peachy.

"Are you sure they weren't at Gages house?" I mumbled, trying to find someway out of this situation.

Even though I was sure there wasn't one.

"I'm sure, B." She pounded on the door again till we heard heavy steps from the other side.

No this isn't a good idea. I'm just going to turn around and walk away and ignore whatever protests Aven will-

The door swung open immediately cutting off my semi-amazing plan to ditch them all. Aspen stood in the door with a bottle of beer in his hands.

My family doesn't have the best track record with drinking.

"Are you that hard of fucking hearing that you couldn't hear me pounding on the door!?" Aven screeched in his face.

Probably turning the head of innocent passerby's.

I curved a finger and held it against my lips to contain my laughter. It was always funny when they fought because Aven would always yell and he would just stand and watch her as if she were crazy.

It was amusing to say the least.

He leaned in and cupped his ear jokingly.

I let out an unattractive snort as Aven pushed past him and into the house, shoulder checking him on the way. "Real mature." He called after her and she only flipped him off.

I laughed and stepped forward. He turned back to me and smiled tightly, extending an arm to the interior of his home. "Welcome to my humble abode."

Yeah, welcome alright.

"I've been here before." I chuckled, looking up at him. "But I suppose it's different considering there aren't sex driven teenagers and blinding LED lights everywhere."

His house looked extremely different during the day time. It was still huge as fuck, but it seemed bigger when it was quiet and empty.

It didn't really feel like a home. Just a property.
