RUBY

My feet walked lazily across the hallway. I didn't know what the time was and I had no energy to walk all the way back to my room and look.

As I began descending down the stairs I heard three voices. One of which that belonged to my mother and another that belonged to my brother.

The other I couldn't quite put a finger on and that made me pause in the middle of the stairs.

I leaned over a little trying to get closer without being caught, but unfortunately I wasn't quiet enough.

"Ruby is that you!?" My mom called from the kitchen.

I startled at her voice. That might've just been the first time she's actually addressed me since we fought.

Flashback-

"Alex move" I groaned as my brother decided to lay his head in my lap.

I was seated on the couch while my mom and dad were unpacking upstairs. Alex said he wanted to spend time with me before he began to unpack.

Our relationship was a hard one to understand. We act like we hate each other but anytime we have to spend time with each other we take it. It's obvious that we're both in denial.

"Oh come on, show your big brother some love. I've been gone for half the year." He said, shifting so he was looking up at me.

He got up and held his arms up in front of me. I stared at him blankly while he was grinning like an idiot. "Come on..." he said, making grabbing motions with his hands, "you know you want to."

I rolled my eyes and stood up, wrapping my arms around his torso. He pulled me in tightly and rested his chin on my head. "I missed you, birdie."

I pulled back and narrowed my eyes, "did you really?" I said suspiciously. "Im sure you miss the busty blondes and Pi Sigs even more." I mocked.

He gave me a blank stare and pulled away from me to sit back on the couch, "shut up." He muttered, crossing his arms over his chest, a smile rising at the corners of his mouth.

He loves me.

"Come on, tell me about the college life people always go on about. Tell me about the body shots and seven minutes in heaven!" I said cheerily sitting down next to him.

My brother was a big partied in high school so I have 0 qualms about if he went to parties or not. He's making it obvious by the little smirk on his face and because I know my brother well enough.

He's a non-stop partier.

A fiend for them some might say.

"Ruby!" I snapped my head to see my mother walking into the kitchen giving me a disapproving look. "Your brother didn't Indulge in that nonsense at college. Isn't that right Alex?"
