Meredith, Derek and Ellie-May were sitting in the garden. Meredith was huge now and was almost due

"Mommy, look how high I can go!" Ellie yelled as Derek was pushing her on the swing

"Wow, baby! That's amazing!" Meredith smiled and rubbed her stomach

Derek and Ellie kept playing for a long time until the little girl was tired

"I'll go make you a snack while daddy helps you cleaning yourself up" Meredith giggled and walked into the house

Meredith was cutting some fruit in pieces and put them in Ellie's favourite bowl

"I'll place it here" Meredith said as Derek walked into the room with Ellie in his arms as he was tickling her

Ellie quickly say down and started eating while Meredith occasionally took a piece out of Ellie's bowl

"Silly mommy" Ellie giggled and placed her bowl in between them so her mom could have easier access

Meredith smiled and grabbed another piece and stuffed it into her mouth

Derek placed his hand on Meredith's stomach and felt their little girl kicking softly

"Is she giving you a hard time?" Derek asked as he slightly rubbed her stomach

"No, she's being good" Meredith smiled softly

"Mer, you do know that you can complain, right?" Derek frowned slightly "I know you barely slept last night and you're almost due so-"

"Derek, she's being good and I'm fine" Meredith said and stood up to clean the little mess she made in the kitchen

"I can help" Derek offered but Meredith shook her head. As she was kneeling down, she slightly winced

"Mer?" Derek jumped up

"I- I'm okay" She smiled

"You don't look very okay" Derek frowned as he saw her rubbing her belly

"I am, just some braxton hicks" She forced a smile and went back to cleaning

"Can you take Ellie and start her movie? I'll finish here" Derek said in a try to make her sit down for a bit

Meredith nodded and grabbed Ellie's hand and walked over to the living room and turned on the TV

...

"Mommy, can I draw some more?" Ellie asked as the movie ended

"Of course" Meredith said and Ellie climbed off the couch, handing a hand to Meredith

"Don't worry, I'll get up. Go ahead, I'll be there soon" Meredith smiled and did everything she could to push herself on her feet and sighed once she got up

"Meredith, talk to me" Derek said sternly once Ellie was out of sight

"Let me help Ellie first" Meredith said and followed her daughter as she waddled through the room. She went to the kitchen and started making snacks, grabbing a drink for Ellie and eventually starting to fold clothes

"Mer, can I talk to you?" Derek asked once she didn't return in 30 minutes

"Derek, I'm kinda busy over here" Meredith said as she continued folding the clothes

"Mer, please" Derek begged and she finally gave in. Her dull eyes were staring at nothing as she walked over to Derek and took a seat on the armrest of the couch "I'm concerned about you" Derek said as he grabbed her hands

"I'm okay, Derek" Meredith pulled away her hands

"You're not, stop saying you are" He held her hands before she could pull away "You're acting as if you can't complain while you're the one that's carrying our daughter. You're the one that feels her kicking, that's exhausted and so much more. I'm concerned" Derek said as his voice broke

"She barely kicks hard enough to consider it real pain and I deserve it anyway" Meredith muttered

"Why would you deserve any pain?" Derek asked as he cupped her face with his hand

"Because I was supposed to keep her safe and I failed" She whispered

"You're not the one to blame. We're both doctors, we know no one is to blame in these cases" Derek kissed her hands

"I- I can't" Meredith started to sob until she stopped and her eyes grew wide

"What happened?" Derek gasped

"My water just broke" Meredith said and looked down
