Meredith and Derek have used every second to watch their little girl as long as they could. Meredith barely slept during the night and was exhausted. The bags underneath her eyes were horrifying to see but Derek understood

He could understand why she wanted to stay awake for that long, she wanted to enjoy the time they had with their daughter, even if she was barely responsive and hooked up to a bunch of machines

"Sissy!" Ellis yelled as she ran into the room

"Shh" Both Meredith, Derek and Alex whispered

"Sorry" Ellis apologized but immediately turned her attention to her little sister resting in the incubator

"Wanna hold her again?" Derek asked and Ellis nodded in agreement

Derek carefully got Grace out of the incubator and placed her in Meredith's arms as he repositioned Ellie May on the bed before placing Grace into her arms

"I need to use the bathroom" Meredith whispered and slowly got out before making her way to the bathroom. Once she closed the door, she collapsed on the ground and started to cry as quiet as possible to not worry Derek

As she kept sobbing, she could hear Ellie's giggles

She braced herself and went back into the room after splashing some cold water on her face

"Is your little sister good?" Meredith asked, her voice gave away that she was crying. Derek patted the bed and she took a seat

"Sissy good! Lufff" Ellie smiled

Meredith brushed her fingers over Grace's tiny hand and kissed it after

"Sissy always sleeps" Ellie frowned

Neither Derek or Meredith could answer so they just let go of it

"Meredith, Derek?" Addison's voice was heard

"What's wrong?" Meredith asked concerned

"Grace's stats are going down.." Addison told them

"No.. I'm not ready yet" Meredith stated

"How long before-" Derek started but couldn't finish the sentence

"Probably in the next days" Addison sighed and joined them on the bed

Alex shook his head from his spot on the chair. He loved this little girl so much already and couldn't even imagine how hard it would be for Meredith and Derek to lose their little girl

Meredith's grip tightened on Derek and the kids

"Mer.." Derek whispered

"No.. I don't wanna hear it" Her voice cracked before she broke out in sobs

"Mommy, what's wrong?" Ellie asked in concern

"Remember we told you that Grace is sick?" Derek asked and Ellie nodded in response "She's very sick now and sometimes babies that are sick can't be helped and will go to heaven" Derek said and Meredith only sobbed harder

"It wasn't supposed to go like this" She whispered to Addison "She's supposed to lay in her crib in our nursery!" She now yelled hysterically

Derek pulled Meredith into her arms as Addison took Grace and Alex grabbed Ellie

"No, don't take them away! Don't take them away!" She cried

Addison and Alex looked at each other and sat down on the bed holding the kids before Meredith took them careful

Addison and Alex had no idea what to do. They knew that once Grace would lose the fight, both Derek and Meredith would be completely broken, they would fall apart for sure. They could only hope that they could save their marriage, save their family and not rip apart as most families do

Grace slowly opened her hand a tiny bit and Meredith, Derek, Alex and Addison looked in awe

"Look" Meredith pointed out with a huge smile

"Hey there, little girl" Derek laughed a bit as he kept whispering things to his youngest daughter

Ellis climbed closer to Meredith's body and Meredith wrapped her arm around the little girl in order to give her the comfort she needs

"Do you want some ice cream?" Alex asked as he noticed her behaviour

Ellie shook her head no

"Why not baby?" Derek asked

"Wanna stay here, with sissy!" She said sternly

Derek and Meredith nodded

"But tonight you're staying with aunt Callie and aunt Arizona, okay?" Derek reminded her

"Kay" Ellie smiled before turning all her attention back tl her little baby sister. She only knew her sister was sick and even though she wasn't familiar with the meaning of dying, she would feel the tension in the family as they will have to go through an amazingly heard chapter of their life
