Chapter 16

Malakai's POV

Good. She's finally sleeping.

A while after I fell asleep there was banging on the front door.

It's 4:30 in the morning.

Who the hell is here?

My brother came running into my room.

"Do you know who it is?"

I got up and looked out the window.

"Oh sugar honey iced tea. It's Adrian. Don't wake Rose up right away. Do you have your phone?"

He nodded.

"You know where the key is right?"

"Yeah."

"I'll yell "key" if you gotta hide."

On my way out of my room I closed the door. My dad had already opened the front door. He has a black eye and cuts all over him.

"Adrian? What happened?! You look like hell!"

"Thanks. I feel like it. Where's Rose?"

"She's in my room."

"Dude my mom just beat the shit outta me."

"Hailey did this?!"

"Dude she's beyond pissed off. She said she wanted to talk. So my dumbass went to the house. She started yelling and throwing shit at me."

"Adrian?!"

"I told you to not wake her."

"I didn't. I sat down and she woke up."

"Mo-Hailey is still on their side."

"Let's face it. She doesn't care. She loves him more than us."

"Is dad still in town?"

"Yeah. Mally talked to him yesterday. Do you want me to call him?"

"No it's okay. I can do it."

"Mary? What's wrong?"

Rose looked at me then put her head down. She walked over to the couch and sat down.

"Di-is-this?"

"Chris go upstairs."

"Is this part my fault?"

"What?"

"No!"

I sat down next to her and started rubbing her back.

"I thought we were past this. None of this is your fault. How many times do we have to say it to make you believe it?"

The front door opened again.

"What the hell happened to you?!"

"Your ex wife happened."

"Did she do anything to Rose?"

"No. She's been with me all day. I don't leave her by herself. No one does."

Rose put her head on my leg. I looked down at her and saw her hands were covering her face.

"I'm gonna bring her upstairs."
