Chapter Four:

Emma woke up at sometime around seven and climbed out of bed to start getting ready. She was more excited than usual, it was the morning she was going to get to meet the kids! Emma turned on her flashlight and shined the light onto her shelf. Emma picked out a fresh green staff shirt and white target shorts. She grabbed a towel and walked towards the bathroom. After hanging up her towel and getting in the shower, Emma turned the water to warm and used the hair products that were already in the shower.

Outside of the bathroom, Madison heard the shower running and woke up. She looked over at Jill who was still sleeping, she was quite funny with her entire head body covered head to toe in her blanket. Madison smiled and turned to grab her journal.

Today's the day my camper's arrive! Jill made a joke that they'd call me mommy Madison lol. Jills really funny! She sleeps with her entire body hidden under the blanket lol. I'm really excited to meet the campers! I don't remember much about me when I was 13, I wonder if I would be friends with them at their age! Last night was epic! Grace brought ice cream and Nissa, Addie, Lauren, V, Jess, Katie, Kaitlin, Jill, Emma and I all dug in! New Hampshire skys really are gorgeous, Jill and I looked at them together! I saw the big dipper, it was cool!

Jill sat up and pushed her covers down, she turned to look out the window.

"Morning sleepyhead!" Madison called out.

       Jill picked up the covers, pulled them over her head and went back to sleep. Madison laughed and looked back down at her journal. Jill sat up again, looking out the window once again before falling back down. Madison closed her journal and put it back down on the shelf.
Jill groaned and sat up pushing down her blanket and running a hand through her hair. Jill yawned before climbing off the top post and climbing down the bedside ladder.

Jill walked over to her clothing shelf and pulled out a pair of black shorts and her grey staff shirt. She grabbed her brush from the shelf and started to brush her hair while waiting for Emma to get out of the bathroom. Madison watched as Jill brushed her hair, Jill's hand moved effortlessly through her hair while she brushed her hair, Jill really did look tired, Madison wondered where Jill was from causing her to be this tired still.

"Jill where're ya' from?" Madison asked, looking at Jill.

"California."

"Oh cool! The time difference must take a toll on your sleep schedule! I'm from Wisconsin!"

"cool, yeah it's been like a week but i'm still not adjusted, and the campers show up today, I probably won't get much sleep tonight."

"Oh i'll make them shut up so you can sleep." Madison said, pounding her fist into her hand.

"Ha. These are 13 year old children you can only try."

"Watch me."

Madison responded, and it definitely left some unaddressed tension in the room.

Emma walked out of the bathroom with her hair in a turban and her outfit all ready. Jill knew it was her cue to go take her shower but she wouldn't have minded staying a bit longer with Madison.

Jill climbed into the middle shower, the one all her stuff was in.

Emma climbed up her bedside ladder and sat on the edge of the bed. Emma took the turban off her wet hair and pulled a brush out of the slot between her bed and the bedpost. She started brushing her hair.

Madison grabbed her phone from her shelf and opened instagram. All of the new posts were all of her friends on their fancy vacations with their fancy boy and girlfriends. Madison wished she had that. She closed the app and opened up tiktok.

Jill was just about done with her shower so she turned the water off and wrapped a towel around her body. After climbing out, she reached back into the shower to grab her soap, bodywash, conditioner and shampoo. Jill moved the items to her shower caddy in the shower caddy storage area. Jill pulled out her little makeup box and took out her eyelash curler and mascara. She also grabbed her moisturizer and hair curler while she was there. Jill turned to her face in the mirror. She applied the moisturizer, curled her eyelashes and put on the mascara. She started to heat up the curling iron at the plug in the wall. Jill took her towel off and started to change.

Madison heard the water had turned off so she went to her shelf and picked out a green staff shirt and athletic shorts. Madison leaned on her bed for a bit, she didn't want to walk in on Jill changing.

Jill started curling her hair into clean curls, she wanted to look her best for Ma- the campers. Yeah, she wanted to look her best for the new campers.

Once Jill got out, Madison got into the shower. Emma was putting her hair into two loose braids. Jill was reorganizing her cubby.

Madison left the bathroom at 7:51 and Jill loved the way the crisp green staff shirt looked on Madison, she didn't say anything though.

"Madison, can I braid your hair?" Emma asked.

Damn, Jill wished she had asked first, Madisons hair looked so pretty and Jill had wanted to braid it for so long! Emma was giving Madison dutch braids. Jill had to admit, they looked good. WHY WAS MADISON PULLING OFF EVERYTHING!? Jill grabbed her rings, slid them on her fingers and leaned on her bed while she waited for the other counselors to be ready to go to breakfast.

At 8:04, all three counselors were out the door and headed towards the dining hall. They saw some familiar faces, but they all decided to sit together at table 23 in the dining hall. Melanie stood up on a chair and started to read off announcements.

"All counselors return your phones to the staff lounge after breakfast. Meet your campers at the bunks at eleven unless I told you otherwise, if your greeting campers and taking them to lice checks and covid tests, be there for that at ten. If you have any questions, come to me." Melanie finished.

The three counselors finished breakfast and headed to the staff lounge to drop off their phones and hang out until 11.

Madison swung open the door to bunk 22 seeing kids inside. There weren't many kids there yet. Just a tall blonde with glasses who walked over to Marin's bed. Oh, Marin. There was also someone sitting in Celia's bed, Celia. In the corner of the room was this short brunette wearing too much mascara. Lily. She looked different then Madison pictured, she thought that Lily would be taller lol.

Emma walked in after Madison, Celia climbed down and she and Marin were both obsessing with something Lily packed. An inflatable spongebob? Marin starter bowing down to it? This bunk is weird lmao.

"I'm Madison! Welcome to camp!" Madison said.
"Yeah and I'm Emma." Emma said.

Marin, Celia and Lily exchanged a glance.

"First year counselors!" Celia said, Marin and Lily started grinning and cackling like evil pumpkins. Madison was so confused. This was going to be an interesting summer.
