Chapter 9~ Phil Coulson's Angels

A/N: So this chapter with this title could go either the action route or the family fluff route. I haven't decided yet we'll see where it goes but bear with me. It's now been another five years so that makes Daisy and Julie 10 and Philinda are now 33.

12:45 pm

"I quit!” Julie exclaims seemingly on the brink of tears after watching Daisy score another soccer goal and all Julie has done since her, her sister, and their dad have been outside in their backyard was fumble with the ball not making any goals. Melinda came out to join them bringing along a tray of iced tea "how’s the soccer practice coming along guys” she called out “oh pretty good for Daisy Julie not so much” Phil replied a soft smile on his face patting Daisy on the back and side hugging Julie who wiggled out of his arms and ran to her māmā hugging her leg hiding her face in her leggings “ I don’t wanna try out for soccer anymore it’s stupid I wanna do something else Daisy can have soccer but I wanna try a different sport” Julie said muffled cause she still had her face buried. The little family enjoyed a dinner of grilled chicken and vegetables Melinda stayed deep in thought about what other after school activity Julie could partake in that wasn’t soccer both girls already were learning martial arts. Maybe her younger girl would like ice skating or perhaps track and field.

9:45pm

Phil pulled back the sheets and climbed into the bed where Melinda was already under the comforter pretending to read. Phil looked her way and took her hand sighing with a loving look on his face "wanna tell me what's got you pretending to read…Ulysses" he inquired softly kissing her knuckles Mel sighed heavily and got straight to the point turning slightly to face her husband. “I want our daughters to be happy and I wanna support everything they do but you know I can’t condone just giving up without trying...which is why I think we should insist Julie still try out for soccer” she finished with a firm expression that was hiding something. Phil only smiled and softly reached to cup her cheek then placed soft kisses on her forehead “I know you can’t and I agree who knows maybe she’ll have a change of heart” with that said Mel nodded and kissed him before lying back and going to sleep.

2 weeks later

The family of four were huddled around the computer Phil refreshing the screen every minute or so waiting for the list to be posted of who made the soccer team. Both Daisy and Julie had ended up trying out much to Julie’s protest that happened last week which is why they are here now staring at the screen at 7:55 pm on a Friday. “Come on come on come on” an anxious bouncing Daisy repeatedly chanted, shaking the computer screen “patience is key Daisy bell” her father set a hand on her shoulder then refreshes the page since it had been a minute and then looked over at his wife who was cuddled on the couch with their other daughter neither one that interested in the list Melinda was fully confident in her older daughter and Julie was almost positive she wouldn’t make it. Exactly at 8 pm the list popped up and Daisy frantically searched for her name “ahhhhh omg I made it I made it!! Yess!" she jumped up and down and Julie huffed not seeing her name and looked up to three faces of pity.

Julie walked to the beginning of the stairs, faced her family and cupped her hands around her mouth and shouted "called it!" Then turned around walking upstairs to her room. Both Melinda and Phil sighed sharing a look of understanding that they need to give their youngest space and decided to celebrate for Daisy's sake not wanting her to feel bad about this. Julie sat in her room and found herself thinking about something her māmā would always talk about ice skating she thought it could be exciting and Melinda always made it sound so fun so she left her room and went to find her mom.

The following Monday both children woke up extra excited to get the day started because both would start their after school activities today. Julie has her first ice skating lesson and Daisy has her first soccer practice today. Phil was packing the girls lunches when Melinda came downstairs “ Phil have you seen my black booties I wanted to wear them to work today” she asked him when she came into view “first off why are you going into work today and second I think they got put by the laundry basket” he responded while he finished making Julie’s Gluten free and nut free sandwich. Two pairs of feet came running down the stairs of which both parents did not notice because they were too busy eating eachothers faces “ewwwwwwww” squealed Daisy and Julie when they came into the kitchen Phil and Melinda laughed then Melinda spoke up “alright alright to the car we all have a busy day ahead of us”

4:00 pm

Phil pulled up in lola to the local park with a very enthusiastic Daisy as they were jamming to the Backstreet Boys “ready for this little flower” “Oh yeah” she bolted out of the car when she saw her friends Lincoln and Kora running over to them. Phil got out of the car laughing quietly to himself sitting in the stands next to Lincoln’s mom. “How are you doing Mrs. Campbell we haven’t seen each other since the kids fifth grade talent show sorry again my girls beat your boys” he said doing his best not to smirk.

Melinda and Julie were jamming to NSYNC when they parked in front of the ice rink Julie was practically bouncing off the walls “mama let’s go come on come on!” she hopped out of the car quickly grabbing her bag from the backseat. Melinda just shook her head getting out of the car taking Julie’s hand to stop her from just running off. “I can’t wait to start competitions and be like you mama” Julie said beaming up at her that made Melinda smile brightly walking inside being greeted by her new coach Mrs. Grey  "hello I'm Melinda Coulson we talked on the phone this is Julie say hi Julie" "hello Mrs Grey when can I go on the ice?"
"Well once you get your skates on your free to go out there" her coach answered

6:00 pm

Daisy and Julie were sitting at the dinner table chatting while Phil and Melinda finished up dinner. Melinda was cutting up tomatoes for the salad when she spoke to Phil who was stirring Alfredo sauce "how did soccer practice go with Daisy Bell"
"Really great actually she's a natural the coach is thinking about putting her on defense" Melinda nodded looking up from what she was doing "Julie's lessons went great too she was a natural already and her friend that odd little boy Deke was there so she was happy to have a friend"

Julie and Daisy continued to talk while setting the table "Lincoln was so funny whenever coach Peterson turned around he would make funny faces” Daisy said while straightening out the tablecloth. "Deke was really upset because he was the only boy in the class and all the girls were really mean to him so I had to stick up for him. Māmā was proud of me" Julia said, sitting up straighter looking over at her parents beaming. After dinner was finished the girls helped clean up like always before they went upstairs to their playroom to have their free time before getting ready for bed and their parents used that time for some alone time.

Phil sat down next to Melinda handing her a glass of Haig she smiled accepting it sighing contently.
"Do you ever feel old?" Melinda asked out of nowhere Phil frowned before chuckling a little “Lin we’re only thirty three  where is this coming from?” she sighed looking down at her glass “ I’m not sure really I think it's just that the girls are already ten and it feels like time is just going too fast”. “Oh honey I feel that way too, it seems like just yesterday they were these little babies but they aren’t graduating anytime soon they're still our little angels” he finished his drink then started peppering kisses along her neck.

That night after checking on Daisy and Julie again the couple went to sleep May wrapped in Coulson’s arms. They dreamt about the good ol days before they grew up and settled down starting their family but they both knew that they wouldn’t trade what their life became now for anything. Phil Coulson woke up first and smiled watching his wife sleep at peace and his daughters cuddled together behind Melinda and he thought these are my angels and I'm so lucky.

Authors note: yay! Another update I'm so sorry this book like got left in the dust it was really hard to keep thinking of ideas for it. But I am so glad to be publishing this chapter I enjoyed writing it and I hope you enjoyed reading it. 😊😊
