Chapter Twenty-Seven

"Hey, has anyone seen Chief Beifong?" Mako asked everyone at the breakfast table.

"I think she's still sulking in her room." Korra replied.

"I know she has a problem with me, but she had no right to yell at Opal last night." Suyin said as Wei and Wing run into the room, "All set for your power disc game, guys?"

Wei takes a few pieces of fruit from the basket as Wing replies, "Yeah, all set to kick Wei's butt." He snatches an apple.

"I wanna power disc your face." Wei smacks Wing in the stomach, causing him to choke on the apple. Then he turns to Korra, "You should go play with us."

"Um. I don't think I'd be much competition, since I can't metalbend." Korra replied

"Really. Lin never offered to train you?" Suyin asked.

"Nope. And I guessed I never thought to bring it up because I was learning to airbend, then there was the pro-bending, then I got tied up fighting Equalists. It was a busy few months."

"Well, it's probably for the best. I'm sure Lin would be a horrible teacher. As the Avatar, you should have mastery over all the elements. I'd be happy to show you the basics."

"Really? That would be great!"

"I'll play power disc." Toph said.

"Really? Awesome!" Wing exclaimed.

"Yeah, I'm all for kicking some a-"

Aang cleared his throat and glared at her from over his cup of water.

Toph rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, "You're almost as bad as Sugar Queen."

"You should learn metalbending too Aang." Suyin said.

"I had trouble learning earthbending, I don't think I'll be able to learn metalbending as well." Aang replied.

"What about you Bolin?" Korra asked.

"Uh, nah. I'm more of an earth guy. The dirt, rocks; y'know, maybe some light gravel. That's kinda where my heart is." Bolin replied.

"Okay, Earth Guy. Well, let me know if you change your mind." Suyin said.

Suyin's necklace begins to be pulled off as the cutlery on the table begin shaking and being pulled away, causing everyone with duck for cover. The cutlery flies and stick to a suit. The person in the suit removes the helmet cover, revealing to be Varrick.

"It worked! Zhu Li, mark it down. Magnet suit test successful. Power down." Zhu Li unplugs the suit, causing everything to drop, "On to phase two: Zhu Li clean up this mess." Zhu Li hangs her head in disappointment.

At the Northern Air Temple, airbending training for the new airbenders continue on with Tenzin telling a story.

"His pupils pleaded with their master to eat something, but he refused, just like he had each day during summer." The other airbenders, except for Otaku, listen with disinterest, "Instead he meditated and got his nourishment from the universe. So when Tang Xu completed the ninety-seventh day of his historic fast on which island?"

Otaku puts his hand up, "Oooh! Oooh!"

"Anyone besides Otaku, who already studied this in his acolyte training?"

"Ooh, ooh, ooh!"

"And is answering every question."

"Ooh! Ooh! Ooh!" Tenzin finally looks and glances at Otaku, prompting him to answer, "Whaletail Island."

"That is correct. Again. Now, on day ninety-eight-"

The recruits break out in laughter as Bumi capers about with his tunic over his head and Bum-Ju peeking out from the collar. He waves his hands around and speaks in a falsetto, "Greetings, air people. I come seeking boring stories to take back to the Spirit World."
