Chapter 40: Summer

Katie Rae
on the way home 

I sat next to Fredrick on the way home, keeping our conversation to a minimum. Yes, we're fine but it's still a little awkward. Rachel and George have already fallen asleep, George is leaned up against the wall and Rachel is layed down across the seat, with her legs across George. I smile at the two, I'm so glad they made up. I look over at Fredrick and he looks at me, I smile and lack back. I hear him sigh, and slump in his seat. "You alright?" I ask him, he looks back at me and then back at the window again. "Everything's fine" he says bluntly, I look at him. "You're lying to me, Fredrick" I say to him, he sits up and looks at me. "Why are you going to Malfoy's?" he asks, I look at him like he's crazy. "Because he's my friend and I told him I would. Why does it mean so much to you?" I ask him, his eyes go wide. "Whatever, just be careful" he says, I roll my eyes. 

"I'm sorry Katie Rae, I just want you to be careful. You know what happened with Rachel" I cut him off, "What happened with Rachel was his father's doings, not his" I defend him, he scoffs. "Okay, I really am sorry" he says, his eyes go soft. "It's fine, but don't be so bothered by this. I don't like him like that, if that's what you're worried about" I tease him, he smiles and rolls his eyes. "That isn't what I was worried about, Kay" he says, I look at him. "You've never called me that" I say to him, he smiles. "I'm just trying something new, I won't call you that again" he says, I grab his hand, "I love it" I say, we smile at each other I lay my head on his shoulder and fall asleep.

I say bye to everyone as I join Draco at his side, walking to his mother. "Is she going to remember me?" I ask him, breaking the silence and tension between us. Him and I are fine, but ever since our little argument between us two, there has been some tension. "I'm sure we will, also Rae, I'm sorry about making Cho fess up, it was wrong of me" he says quietly, I look at him and smile. We reach his mom, her eyes lighting up as she sees me, she engulfs me into a hug. "Katie Rae, it's so good to see!" she says, I smile. "Thank you, Mrs. Malfoy, It's good to see you again!" I tell her, she lets me go and we head our way to the manor. I'm nervous, is Lucius going to be there? Is Bellatrix, the woman who killed Sirius, going to be there? Is Lucius going to lock me in the dungeon's? 

While I'm consumed into my own thoughts, I didn't realize we had made it to the manor. It was still the same, the dark walls and dark feeling. I remember as a kid the halls would scare me, but now that I'm older it's not so bad. I follow them into the house, the walls not being much different from when I was a kid. I miss Fredrick. 

I follow Draco to his room, and flop down onto his bed. His room isn't much different, he has a terrace that shows the country as his backyard. He still has a book shelf full of original books and poetry and a big closet with his clothes and shoes in it. He laughs and lays down next to me, "Your room hasn't changed much Draco" I tell him, he chuckles. "I know but I like to keep things the same" he says, I shrug.

The two of us talk about random things, I tell him the events that happened with Fredrick on the train. "I really think you should be careful, Ray" he says, I shrug. "I know but I don't know how to feel about him" I say, I lean my head on his shoulder. He keeps fidgeting with his hands, I notice that he has different rings on. "I like your rings" I grab one of his hands, admiring the snake ring that wraps around his index finger. "Yeah? You can have this one" he says, he takes the snake one off and puts it on my finger. 

I notice a frown falls upon his face, I look at him with concern. Draco has been different since the last day of school, he's more sad and lonesome. "Draco, what's wrong?" I ask him, he looks at me and then back down. "Nothing, I'm fine, love" he says, I smile and cuddle up next to him. I don't think it's weird that I'm cuddled up with him, we don't have feelings for each other. "Draco! Katie Rae! Time for dinner!" I hear Mrs.Malfoy call, I smile and Draco makes me take his hand so I don't get lost in the halls.
