Five months later—

'Why do we have to separate for tonight?' I pout although the person on the other side of the line can't really see it.

'You don't want bad luck, do you?' Danielle's chuckling chimes through the evening sky from a hotel room not far from our place.

I groan, 'And I thought I was the superstitious one in our relationship.'

'Stop acting like a baby. You can sleep on your own for one night.'

'Just one night. You're stuck with me for the rest of the nights in your life.' I snicker.

'Ugh, which is exactly why we shouldn't sleep together tonight.' I can envision her smirking now, 'I have to lament over my robbed freedom.'

'Hey, you gave that up willingly. Remember? You proposed.' I joke, 'I should be the one mourning.'

She scoffs mercilessly, 'Oh please, like you weren't dying to get into my pants in the first place.' She adds in a sensual tone, 'Plus, I believe you told me you LOVED being tied down.'

I gulp at her abrupt change of air in the conversation, trying to tease back, 'Then why aren't you here doing something about it?'

'I told you, tonight is for my dying freedom—'

'It's not that late, you can lament later.' I look out at the falling sun, biting my lip, 'Come over? Or I go to you?'

The line is silent for a few seconds before Danielle sighs, 'Sage, we have to get up extra early tomorrow—'

'Come over? Or I go to you?' I ignore her, restating firmly.

I suddenly feel agitated. I don't want our night to end like this. Not so fast.

Of course, I want us to be Mrs Carlos-Osis. However, like she said, it's the last night of our so-called bachelorette freedom before jumping into the marriage (or the so-called tomb of love). I'm not going to lie, I'm fucking nervous.

I've been like this for the past two weeks, and that nerve-racking feeling grows stronger by each day counted down to the wedding.

I need to see her. I need her to reassure me that tomorrow is going to be alright—although I know accidents will happen—and that we can do this despite our fears.

After a long while of dreadful soundlessness, Danielle says softly, 'Fine. Come over after you feed Cherry.'

Danielle's POV:

I don't know what's got to my soon-to-be wife's thick skull, but she sounded unsettled somehow.

It wasn't just lust, I can tell.

Maybe getting cold feet? Well, I'll make sure to drive that out of her head. As forcefully as necessary.

Hell, I didn't spend a shit load of money and pour my heart out for a farce.

I'm too invested already.
