As I expected, Danielle didn't reply afterwards.

I decided to give Danielle space, so I tried my best not to annoy her for a whole week.

Also, I still spent all my after-hours with Meghan. She was a fast and eager learner.

After three weeks of intense training, she now can pick up half of the things I say accurately when I chat with her in Mandarin.

I'm a proud tutor.

'You're not going anywhere today.'

As I start packing my things, Ms Osis suddenly says in a monotonous tone.

'Why?' I raise a brow at her.

She doesn't look at me, only waves the papers in her hand as a reply.

I sigh, 'Let me tell Meghan first.'

I walk out of the room and half-close the door.

'Hey...sorry, I can't go today. My boss asks me to stay last minute.' I smile apologetically.

'Oh, don't worry about it.' She nods understandingly, 'I'll see you tomorrow.' She gives me a gentle hug.

'See you tomorrow.' I hug her back briefly and let go.

Now, I have to face whatever Ms Osis is throwing in my face. I sigh again internally.

'So, what do you want me for?' I walk up to Ms Osis, ask directly.

'Put these in alphabetical order for me.' She pats the two piles of paper on her side, still not looking at me.

That's it?

As much as I want to question her, I keep my mouth shut and take the two piles back to my desk.

It doesn't take long to finish, I could've done it before the clock strikes at 9 am tomorrow morning.

'All done.' I put them back to her desk, looking down at her, 'Is that all?'

She stops her typing, opening her mouth, seemingly wanting to say something but eventually choosing not to.

'Yes.' She says in a low voice, it almost sounds like a 'no'.

She fixates her eyes on the keyboard, deliberately avoiding my gaze.

I let out a breath. That's okay, I said I'd be patient.

I turn around and grab my stuff, walking towards the door. 'Have a good evening, boss.'

'Are you rushing to meet your little date?'

I hear her asking as my hand touches the doorknob. I freeze for a second.

What's happening now?

I compose myself and turn to her, caught up in her intense and complicated stare. Her blue eyes are covered in some emotions that I haven't seen before.

'Meghan and I aren't dating.'

I hear myself replying in a raspy voice.

'Aren't you?' Her voice is unwavering, 'Then why are you always running out of the office with her?'

I carefully raise my brows in disbelief. Is she seriously jealous right now?

I clear my throat and explain, 'I'm tutoring her in Mandarin. She wants to go to China.'

'I see.' This answer seems to satisfy her. Her gaze suddenly softens as she nods to herself.

She shifts her focus back to her laptop, disengaging herself from the conversation.
