"You didn't have to do it, Ben."
"Aw, it's alright, Wills. No need to say thanks."
I gave him a firm look, "You shouldn't have done it."
He rolled off his eyes, "Oh, come on. Not like you didn't enjoy."
"Okay, maybe Rick deserved it. But Heather? We don't even know that woman."
"But we both sensed what a snake she is," he said coolly while sipping on his wine.
"Not like she was stealing my boyfriend or something. I think we stretched it too much."
"Uh-uh, Sterling. Don't you play the kind freak again. That Dick Balls had it coming."
"But he doesn't even know you! Nor do you him."
"That's the beauty, silly. He wasn't able to carry on the argument because he knows nothing about me. Whereas me," Ben clicked his fingers at me. "Huh, I got my spy."
I sighed heavily, "He's not going to take this lightly, Ben."
"But we will. I mean, who has such a healthy meet-up?" I could sense the sarcasm dripping shamelessly from every word he spoke.
Sometimes Ben gets too savage and takes it as a jest.
"Ladies and gentlemen! May I have your attention please?"
Mr. Kevinson's voice and the clicking of his glass echoed around the hall, forcing everybody present to look at the center. Beside him stood Mr. Turner, with a proud expression and a smile so deceiving that nobody can tell how egocentric this man is.
"I'm thankful to each one of you who joined us today," He announced. "We're gathered here to celebrate the success of our newly launched New Adult-Sci-Fi novel, authored by Mrs. Veronica Adams! I request you to please join us."
The author stepped forward with a radiant, happy face as she shook hands with the two men.
"This brilliant novel has garnered great reviews, critiques, and is receiving the love and support of readers all over the world. Hundreds of copies have been printed, distributed, and have insanely been bought rapidly, making one good record!"
Oh, how I wish to be a best-selling author one day...
The hall was filled with light clappings and cheers by then.
"But as much as a writer puts in the hard work to create a best-selling novel, there are a number of hands that work behind the scenes. A book gets approval to be printed only when it has been proofread and edited sharply. Where a writer gives birth to new worlds, an editor gives it a breath of fresh air."
Ben nudged me, "Here comes your queue, eddy."
"Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to call Willow Sterling, our senior editor, who gave that breath of fresh air to Veronica's masterpiece. Without her eagle-eyes, working spirit, teamwork, and leadership, this success wouldn't have been possible." I smiled ear to ear, gleeful that my hard work was getting recognition. "Willow, please join us."
