Blood. Blood everywhere.
Daniel falls to his knees, grasping his head. I am in state of paralysis. My head slowly turns to Tyler to look at his face.
But all I see is a huge grin. I gasp in horror at the monster before me. He looks from Daniel to me now, his eyes full of an emotion I can’t detect.
“That’s what happens when you don’t listen to me,” his grin widens, showing off his sharp teeth. “You’re mine now.”
Who is this man?
“Daniel? Daniel! Are you okay?” Connor shrieks, shaking Daniel’s body frantically. “Quick – Amber – call 911!”
My shocked state is broken and I reach for the phone in my pocket. Desperately I punch the numbers ‘911’ and wait for a response. A lady answers and I blurt out the name of the university. No more is needed to be said and she informs me that an ambulance will arrive soon.
I turn to Tyler. “You better get lost now otherwise I’ll inform the police as well.”
“Are you trying to scare me? If that’s what you’re trying to do you’re wrong: the police don’t scare me – nothing scares me.
I stare hard at his emotionless eyes. The sounds of Daniel’s groaning turn my attention away, and soon I am crouching over his body, examining the damage. After minutes of waiting I am filled with impatience and anxiety for the ambulance to come. Yet soon the sound of the sirens of an ambulance is heard from the distance, and soon Daniel is carried up and into the vehicle by two men dressed in white. I am about to jump in the ambulance with him, but there’s only space for one person. Connor insists that I go home. Hesitantly I comply.

It’s hard for me to sleep at night. My silky bed sheets feel cold and foreign as my motionless body lies on it. Images of Daniel’s weak body in the hospital play in my head. What is happening to him right now? Is he okay? Please God, please; tell me there’s no surgery, or permanent damage. I want to see him tomorrow at school as good as new.
Tyler’s grin keeps flashing back at me. I shake my head fiercely – the thought of him makes me outraged. To think that Tyler lies here, in the comfort of his own bed, meanwhile Daniel lies in the unknowing rooms of the hospital. I squeeze my eyes shut. Go away thoughts, go away. Please.
I flip the sheets off me and spring up from my bed. I can’t sleep like this. I can’t. With light footsteps I make my way to the kitchen in the pitch black darkness. My fingers feel for the drawers. I pull one open to reveal a bunch of cutlery piled up. I feel for the object I am looking for – ouch. My finger slits, and blood spills freely out – Bingo. I pick up the butcher knife firmly into my fist and make my way towards Tyler’s room.
The door squeaks open. It’s even darker here than it was in the kitchen. I am not very familiar with this room so it takes effort to place exact steps in order navigate. Slowly, slowly, closer and closer. I can hear his breath. Nearly there-
My foot hits the edge of something hard. I curse as I fall. My knees hit the ground but my hands manage to grab onto something soft. I gasp for breath from the sudden impact. My head is dizzy for a moment, but I shake it and regain my focus. Fortunately I didn’t drop the knife for I can feel that it’s still in my hand. I focus my eyes to see where I landed.
It seems that I have landed right on Tyler’s bed, and right in front of my face, breathing heavily is – Tyler. I smirk as I see my opportunity: a face for a face. My grip tightens on the knife as I prepare myself.
“Amber?” Tyler’s eyes stare at me with shock.
