"thanks for doing this by the way," giselle turned to zara with a grateful expression on her face.

they hadn't spent much time together in a while and it felt nice to have zara around during one of her babysitting gigs. quinn's aunt was out of town and apparently, her cousin needed a babysitter for the night. giselle had gladly accepted and was even more pleased to hear zara would be keeping her company. quinn was currently on another date with cora.

"dude, of course!" zara grinned, latching arms with giselle. "i missed you and i'm getting tired of seeing ben and my ballet instructor's face every single day."

giselle shook her head and laughed. "oh come on, you love ben."

"i never said i didn't," zara countered. "and i have a love/hate relationship with my ballet instructor."

"fair enough," giselle chuckled.

zara asked, wiggling her brows in amusement  "so what's new with you and the heffley boy?"

"oh stop it," giselle blushed, trying to hide the growing smile on her face.

"god look at you!" zara exclaimed, "you're all smiley. it's cute."

"i feel like a kid," giselle sighed.

"well tell me!"

"i don't know, i guess being with rodrick has taught me that you never know what you're gonna get," she chuckled.

he was being spontaneous lately. giselle had received plenty of unexpected presents from the heffley boy, it was beginning to worry her. she appreciated the sentiment greatly, but she had no idea where this sudden need for present giving came from.

"what does that mean?" zara questioned.

"i received about 3 new plants from him," giselle explained. "and a new set of paintbrushes."

"okay, that's interesting." zara professed, sounding as confused as giselle felt receiving those gifts.

"oh i know what you're thinking," she replied knowingly. "it's a little weird."

"look, it's sweet," zara emphasised, "but out of the blue and maybe a bit much?"

giselle sighed, "i know, but i really did appreciate it all. i kept thanking him and he was being kinda awkward about it."

"is everything okay with him?" zara asked, as they both began to approach quinn's cousin's house.

"he hasn't said anything," giselle said, "but i'm meeting him tomorrow for dinner, i'll ask him then."

there was a short moment of silence between the two friends, giselle found herself speaking up again. "do you think i should get him something?" she asked.

zara took a moment to think before replying, "what did you have in mind?"

"i'll figure something out."

the two friends walked up the front porch steps of the house and knocked on the door. they'd never met quinn's cousin before, which was pretty weird because she'd hardly mentioned them either.

the door swung open, revealing a familiar freckled braced face boy.

"fregley?!"
