Sitting there, in a bridal boutique I couldn't stop thinking in how crazy it was planning such a thing in such a short time. Maybe it was even harder because Chris was working non-stop so he would be able to take a few days after the big day. Or maybe, it was the fact that I didn't know who would be walking me down the aisle. That was a subject that in this moment was taboo around all the guests.
It all started the day that our family met. I didn't recall exactly what happened, I only remember Lisa, Chris' mom, turning pale when my aunt told her how my dad disappeared from our lives. So, well, after that day, anyone had say a thing about it. Now? I was sitting on a a very white store watching how my mom, Lisa, Scott and Lizzie tried to explained to the staff member what they would like me to wear.
"And you?" The young lady said. "What would you like to wear?"
As a person that had never thought of getting married, maybe that was one of the hardest questions I had to answer in the last few weeks. I looked around, trying to find a hint, but my mind was just trying to catch up with everything. I look a Lizzie holding her beautiful baby girl, Lily, and then to the woman again. I could noticed all eyes on me.
"I don't know..." I said almost like a whisper looking at the heels on my feet. One of Lizzie's pair that she so gently lent me because I didn't think about it and I was in some comfy sneakers and jeans when we landed in NYC.
"It's okay, darling." Lisa said. "Why don't you just try in some options and then you can see what you like?" I nodded and she gave me a warm smile.
I followed the lady to the dressing room. I could saw on my way in, a lot of women trying in different dresses, some of the crying because they had found the one. I couldn't understand that feeling at all... crying for a piece of clothe? I tried to avoid that kind of thought while I went into the dressing room. Judith, the staff lady, put some dresses on the rack and left me alone to try on them.
Some of them were very puffy or very itchy. I really didn't feel comfortable with any of them. I showed some one them to my marvelous public and they reactions were so different to mine. They all loved was I was wearing. Once again alone, inside the dressing room, I sat on the chair while I heard someone knocking in the door.
"Yes?"
"It's me, Scott. Can I come in?"
"Of course. Is it everything okay?"
"The real question is: are you okay? You don't seem very happy and excited..."
"I think I look like a cake with this dress." I showed him what I was wearing and a little laugh came trough his lips.
"Don't worry." He grabbed my arms. "I think I have an idea."

"So, are you ready, my ladies?"
"What did you do, Scott?" His mom said.
"MAGIC!"
I walked toward them and their faces were pure surprised. I looked at Scott while bitting my lips. he nodded and I looked in the mirror. The dress wasn't anything like before. It was simple, white, a cut clean and short. It has a very vintage look but with a modern twist. I looked at the lady sitting on the coach waiting for some kind of reaction.
"I have never expected something like this." Lisa started to say. "I think you look lovely, my dear."
"It's very you, Julia. I think it really suits you."
"Mom?" I said with the little voice I was able to say.
"I don't have words, sweetie. You don't look what I expected... you look a thousand times better. It fits you perfectly." Then she walked towards me and hugged me. "I always forgot how much you look like your grandma. She would be very happy for you."
