Third p.o.v
"Hey." Illumi greets him simply. Killua is still staring at him, his eyes wide and unbelieving at his brother standing in front of him. It's really him. Beads of sweat start to gather on his face."Killua's older brother?" Asks Leorio, looking bewildered at the transformation the other went under.
"So he really used needles to change the shape of his face." Akira puffs out her cheeks.
"You didn't believe me?" She questions him, her expression offended. Kurapika shakes his head, a slight smile plays around his lips, a bit amused at the face she is making.
"No, I just wanted to confirm it with my own eyes." She gasps and points at him.
"That's just a fancy way of saying you didn't believe it!" He turns his head back to the field, not denying and not confirming it.
"Hey, you didn't answer meee." She whines, trying to catch his eyes, "You didn't believe, I am right, right? I know it, you-"
Whack!
Leorio grumbles as Akira whines at him, "Just concentrate on the match, you idiot.""I heard that you stabbed mom and Milluki." It's a simple statement, with a yes or no answer, but Killua doesn't try confirm or deny it when his lips lift up in an awkward grin
"I guess." Illumi tilts his head at his words.
"Mom was crying..."
"Anyone would cry if their son did that to them." Declares Leorio fuming. Without acknowledging him, Illumi continues,
"...tears of joy," Akira snickers as Leorio falls with a thump onto the floor of disbelief. "She was happy to see that you'd grown up. However, she was worried about you leaving home, so she asked me to check up on you. What a coincidence." Killua stares at him, his whole posture screaming cautious.
"I didn't know you wanted to be a Hunter. I'm trying to get a license for my next job."
"I don't really want to be a Hunter." He admits, "I just felt like taking the exam." It's quiet for a moment, until an ominous aura is emitted from Illumi.
"That's a relief. Then I have some advice for you." His large, unblinking eyes are staring Killua down, pulling him under. It feels oppressive, and his chest feels too tight. It feels too tight and he can't breathe. He can't breathe under the terrifying aura his brother is emitting. He can't move, like his legs are pinned to the floor and his body is too heavy.
"You're not cut out to be a Hunter. You were born to be...." Illumi's eyes are hypnotic, words are swirling in his eyes, pulling him under and dragging him down, "a killer." The world around him is spinning. It's spinning and.... "You don't want anything or wish for anything. As one who lives in the shadows, you can only feel pleasure when people die." In reflex his mind goes back to the airship and when they met the prisoners.
"That's how Dad and I raised you." They stare at each other for a moment, Illumi gauging for a reaction from Killua, who's meeting his eyes cautiously. "What would you accomplish by becoming a Hunter?" Illumi asks. The latter's right hand twitches as beads of sweat appears on the skin.
"It's true, I don't want to become a Hunter. But...." Sweat gathers under his chin, seemingly about to drop at any moment. "Even I have something I want...." Akira's bright eyes, full of life and dreams. Gon's huge smile, filled with hope and determination, flashes in front of his eyes. It's crushed by Illumi's words.
"No, you don't." Killua snaps back.
"I do! There's something I really want!" Slow, ever so slow, Illumi's arm moves and when he holds out his hand, the palm facing the ceiling, he speaks again.
"Tell me what it is that you want." Taken aback, Killua ducks his head, the words don't want to leave his lips, they are stuck in his mouth, unwilling to budge. They are watching. He remembers all of the sudden. Gon and Akira are both watching him. They are watching him as he gets chewed out by his brother. Shame crawls through his veins. He can't admit it in front of them, he can't, he just can't.
His eyes flicker over to where Akira and Gon are. Icy blue eyes and green forest eyes are staring at him. They look concerned. Are they concerned about him? They are standing next to each other, shoulders touching. Their shoulders are touching and they look so.... Close. Jealously rears ugly in his head. Why would they be concerned about him? They're already perfect, why would they need someone that isn't normal? That is.... A murderer, killer, assassin. Whispers his mind to him. Killua squeezes his eyes shut. What if they don't want to be friends with you? His traitorous mind continues. His tongue feels heavy in his mouth when he tries to swallow. Seconds tick by. Just as he opens his mouth, Illumi beats him to it, again.
"What's wrong? There's nothing you really want, is there?"
"That's not it!" He shouts agitated, his eyebrows furrowed and his lips pulled back in a grimace. Illumi stares him emotionlessly down. Killua starts hesitantly, his voice sounds... almost nervous, doubts clouding his mind.
"I.... Want to become friends with Gon... and Akira.... I'm sick of killing people." Caught up in his head, Killua doesn't notice Akira's surprised expression. "I want to become friends with Gon and Akira, and just play normally."
"That's impossible." Killua clenches his teeth at Illumi's cold words.
"You'll never be able to make friends." His head jerks up at Illumi's sentence, surprise filling his eyes at that not he's never be able to play normally, but that he'll never be able make to make friends. It makes something ache in his chest and pull at his lips.
"Your only ability is to discern whether or not you can kill them. That's what your were taught." Illumi's words bounce inside his head, repeating itself like a broken recorder. "You just don't know how to classify Gon and," Illumi almost sounds distasteful, "Akira because they're too bright and naive. You don't actually want to become friends with them."
"You're wrong...." His protest is weak, even to his own ears.
"If you stay with them, you'll end up wanting to kill them one day." He clenches his fists, digging his nails into his own flesh. "You'll get the urge to see if you can kill him or not. It's because.... You have the soul of a killer." A vein pops up in Leorio's forehead, his face twisted in fury as he starts to walk forward. However, before he can step onto the field, he's held back by a referee.
"As we mentioned before-"
"Yeah, I know!" He rudely interjects, not bothering by pleasantries and looks over the man's shoulder.
"Killua!" He shouts. "I don't give a damn if he's your brother... but...." Leorio grits his teeth, "He's a worthless piece of shit! Don't listen to him! Just beat the shit out of him as usual and win!" Akira and Gon share a look before simultaneously turning back to Killua.
"Yeah!" They scream, cupping their hands around their mouth.
"Don't listen to him, Killua!"
"Beat the shit out of him, Kil!" Echoes Akira cheerfully, jumping up and down. "Dead Fisheyes won't know what hits him!" A snort threatens to crawl up his throat at Akira's choice of words.
"You don't have to want to be our friends," Killua's heart drops at Gon's joyful exclamation, until he hears the next words, "because you're already our friend, Killua!"
"Heck yeah!" Agrees Akira, "Next to Izumi, you're both my bestest friends!" His lips quirk slightly up at their words, feeling unexpectedly... happy. Only to feel his blood freeze as Illumi just hums casually.
"Is that true?"
"Of course!"
"No kidding, Dead Fisheyes!" There's a minuscule twitch in Illumi's eyebrow at Akira's nickname. It wouldn't be noticeable unless you knew what you where looking for. Another hum is heard from Illumi. Killua feels his throat close up when he grasps his chin, expression almost thoughtful.
"Oh man, that's not good." Illumi acknowledges, "So they already consider Kil a friend." Suddenly he holds up a finger like he came up with a perfect idea, and announces, "All right! I'll kill Gon and Akira!" You could hear a pin drop if you wanted to. Killua's world stops at the words coming out of Illumi's mouth, feeling paralyzed in terror.
