"Bey... The Mongols are coming."

Osman stood with a start, eyes widening, "What? How did the patrols not see them?" Baysungur shook his head grimly, "We don't know, Bey, it's almost as if they appeared out of nowhere." Osman ran a hand over his beard, blowing out a breath. The kids look at each other, before Melike blurts out, "Does this mean I get to punch someone?"

Gunduz snorts, "Not the point kid, not the point." Osman turns to the kids, kneeling to look at them at eye level. "I need you guys to be safe, alright? No matter what, don't throw yourself into danger."

(That's pretty ironic coming from the one and only Osman Bey.)

As Osman opens his mouth to say something else, they hear the rapid sound of hooves hitting the ground. Osman stands up straight, eyes geared to the door, "Kids, go into the room, I have some daggers there, protect yourself." Boran inhales slowly, before walking over and kissing Aylah's head, "Be careful, Aylah'm, it's going to be okay."

Aylah nods mutely, she didn't exactly like where this was going. She had heard of the Mongols before, she knew her father and uncles had fought them and despised them. Especially, Goktug Emmi, who wore an angry or distant look whenever Mongols were mentioned. Aylah didn't know why, something had clearly happened, something her uncle avoids talking about.

Aylah looked back at her father, who wore a fierce expression, drawing his sword and standing next to Osman Bey and Gunduz. He looked so different than he usually did, smiling, honey-brown eyes soft. Her father looked fierce, brave, scary even with his bow slung over his armor.

Aylah quickly follows behind her friends into the room where Orhan dug through a chest of daggers. He tosses an insignificant-looking dagger with a brown handle to Aylah, who catches it. Aylah already had one dagger hidden, but she assumed Kayi and the twins have done the same.

Shouts and screams ring outside, making the kids gulp in apprehension. Aylah closed her eyes, 'Be brave, brave, be brave Aylah.'  Aylah opens her eyes, the sounds of swords clanging feeling closer than ever as she opens and closes her hand around the dagger.

After only a moment of hearing Osman Bey shout orders outside, the Marquee doors swing open, making the kids' eyes widen in fear. ¨Here they come...¨ Kayi whispers, pulling the dagger out of the sheath. The Mongols enter, faces covered with dark veils and malicious grins.

"So here they are,¨ The man who seems to be one of the commanders speaks in a mocking tone. ¨And here you are, about to get your butt kicked," Melike obviously speaks first, in the exact same mocking tone. If she was afraid, she definitely was doing a great job at hiding it.

The man scoffs, ¨Oh really, girl?¨ Melike smirks at him, slowly reaching down and grabbing another dagger. There were only about 5 soldiers in the room, and Aylah peeked behind, surely enough, Melike had another blade fisted in her hand.

¨Oh, yeah, Watch this!" Without a moment of thought, Melike flipped the dagger in her hand and throws it full force at the nearest soldier. The dagger finds its target, right in the soldier's chest.

The commander's eyes widened in surprise, clearly not expecting a fight, ¨Get them! We need them alive!¨ He shouted to his men, who move forward to attack. The kids split into separate directions, trying to defend themselves against the much larger and stronger men.

Aylah ducked as a man reached for her, she tried to remember what her father had told her.

"They may be bigger Aylah, but you're smarter." Boran tapped his finger on her head, "The bigger they are, the harder they're going to fall. Being small is your advantage."

Aylah had seen the way her father practiced. He was able to throw his weight around, easily rolling to the side to fire his arrows. "Be fast, their dumb heads will think you disappeared."

Aylah did exactly as her father said, swiftly rolling to the side, and while the soldier looked around in confusion, she drove the dagger into his leg. Despite the kids' fight, more soldiers entered the Marquee, leaving the four surrounded.

Soon enough, Gunduz and Osman were forced inside, along with the other beys. Boran, Goktug, and the other alps had been tied outside, being relentless insulted and beaten. Osman refused to say a word about the secret he had. At that, the commander pushed the kids forward, "So you won't speak, huh Osman Bey? Maybe the future of your tribe should pay the price."

Osman's dark eyes widened before he quickly recovered, masking it with a glare. "Let them go, your problem is with me, not with the children." Osman's tone is sharp, making the tall commander smirk like he had found a weak spot.

"Take them away!" He orders and the twins looking around quickly as if the same idea popped into their head. Both pull out small sharp daggers, twisting their way out of the soldier's grip. They run in opposite directions around the commander, who turn too slowly to even catch them. Orhan turns, jabbing the small blade right into the commander's foot.

Osman's lips twitched up in a small proud smile, 'Well, their attempt sure did better than mine.' The twins circled back around, standing right in front of their father, still facing towards the commander who cursed in pain.

Aylah and Kayi stood there, still held back by the soldiers. Aylah admired her friend's bravery. They didn't hesitate at all, didn't think for a moment, they were brave. The commander glared at the twins, before shouting to his men. "Take them, Now!"

Aylah looked around bewildered as the soldier's grip tightened on her small arms. She tried to fight against his grip as they were pulled towards the door. Osman and Gunduz were up quickly, fighting against their captor. Swords were pushed up against their throats.

"Orhan! Melike!" Osman shouts, "Baba!" The fear and uncertainty in the kids' eyes were now clear.

Something funny happened last Friday, my English teacher and my friend teamed up to change all the school bells to Rick Astley, Never Gonna Give You Up. It was hilarious.

I get quite a bit of homework and I'm in my school's athletics program which means a LOT of running around. But, I hope you all enjoy!

Salaam and have a great day!
