What a Shame

This is it. The final game. I'm finally aloud to play again. It took major convincing, but coach finally gave in. Coach isn't letting Emily play and he had a talk with some manager people about her being apart of the Iceland team. He still wasn't allowed to get rid of her, which is extremely stupid, but he benched her.

"Coach, you gotta let Julie play. She's only played a couple of times. She has real skill, just give her a chance." I begged Bombay while I followed him to the locker room. I just spent a half an hour convincing him to let me play, and it's been an another twenty minutes trying to get him to let Julie play. "Scarlett, you're giving me a damn headache. Just please, go and get ready."

"Only if you let Julie play!" I insisted running to catch up with him. "I said I'd think about it." He muttered annoyed at my stubbornness. He tried to get in the locker room, but I blocked the door and crossed my arms. "Let me in, Scarlett." He sighed trying to push past me. "Please! Please, please!"

"If you don't move your not gonna play. See how much you'll be talking then."

My face dropped. Of course I wanted to play. But I've gotten to play multiple games. Julie's played for a total of ten minutes the whole time we've been here. If I'm risking my spot today for Julie, then so be it.

"Coach, please. I'm not asking for much."

"That's it. Your not playing, now move." He entered the room after I moved from the door. I sighed and took a deep breath. There goes that.

"Fuck." I muttered punching the padded wall next to the locker room door. I shook out my hand and walked into the locker room. "I'm so excited to get to see you play again!" Aspen said excitedly shaking my arm. "I wouldn't get too excited."

"Why?"

"I begged coach to let Julie play so much he told me I couldn't play today." I mumbled sitting down next to her. "What? That's total bullshit!"

"You didn't have to do that." Julie sighed coming to sit next to me. "I did. You deserve to play at least one game."

"Maybe, but it's fine. You deserve to play this last game. Don't worry about me." She shrugged and I gave her a hug. "I'm sorry you didn't get to play."

"Don't be. I'm just glad I'm here!" She smiled pulling away from the hug.

"Coach!" Adam yelled running into the locker room we all stopped and looked at him. "Isn't his arm hurt, why does he have his stuff?" Connie whispered to us. "I don't know." Julie shrugged and we all watched.

"I woke up...and the pain was gone." He rotated his hockey stick making my eyes widen. "How the fuck does that even happen?" Aspen said quietly confused on how the boy healed so fast. "I wish I healed that fast." I huffed watching the smile spread across Adam's face while he showed off his perfectly fine wrist.

I'm going to be completely honest, I don't think I'm completely healed. The doctors gave me the okay as long as I felt okay, so I told them I was. I still get headaches everyday though. Which isn't normal apparently.

I feel almost glad Adam can play again. As much as I hate to admit it, he is one of our best. We really wouldn't be where we are today with out him. But that doesn't mean I'll ever say it do his face.

"Adam, I'm sorry. We already have a full roster." Coach looked at the boy sadly. "What a shame." I shrugged sarcastically, maybe a little too loud because they looked over. "Oh, I forgot. You can have Scarlett's spot." Bombay piped up happily. "Hey! I'm sorry, come on!" I yelled back quickly.

"You can't do that!" Connie yelled and the team, minus Emily and Adam, all shouted their agreements. "With all due respect, that's completely bullshit, coach." Aspen stood up angry. "She's right, coach. I'm not gonna do that to Scarlett." Adam shook his head and I stared at him shocked.

"Huh?" Coach and I asked at the same time. "Just let her play." He waved it off putting his stuff on a bench. Russ started to take his jersey off and I stopped him. "Don't, he doesn't deserve to play anyway." Aspen whispered to him and I rolled my eyes.

"I won't play." I sighed tossing my jersey into my locker. The team started to yell at me and I rolled my eyes. "Adam can have my spot." Charlie insisted stepping up to us. "What? No way, Charlie. You gotta play." I said and we all looked over at the boy. "It's what I can do for the team."

"Thanks." I mumbled to Adam grabbing my jersey out of my locker. "Anytime." He smiled back.

"Mr. Hero. Always has to save the day. What if I wanted to step up and say Adam can have my spot?" Aspen ranted angrily. "You wouldn't let anyone have your spot if your life depended on it." I laughed and she scoffed. "That's not the point!" She said quickly while she finished getting ready.

"You ready?" Connie asked sitting next to me. "As I'll ever be." I shrugged finishing the braid in my hair. "How about you?" I questioned going to hair Aspens hair. "I think so. I'm super nervous, but also excited."

"Nervcited?" Julie suggested and Connie looked at her confused. "Y'know, like a mix of nervous and excited." She explained and Connie nodded understandingly. "Yeah, Exactly!"

"I am super excited to kick some Iceland ass." Aspen piped up while I tied the end of her second French braid. "We know."

"Head back, asshole." I pulled her hair and she let out a yell. "Ow! Don't pull my hair."

"Ow!" She yelled when I did it again. "Oops, sorry. My muscle spasms." I smiled and she rolled her eyes. "You guys are the definition of chaotic." Larson laughed walking up to us. "So we've been told." I raised my eyebrows moving away from Aspens head. "Now my head hurts." She pouted rubbing her head. "I'm so sorry." I apologized and I grabbed my stuff and smacked her head with my hand on the way out of the locker room.

"Didn't see ya there."

"You bitc-" she ran after me and I laughed running away. "As much as I love the show, we need to play now." Bombay looked over to us and we sighed before joining the rest of the team.
