I woke up in my bed, alone. Grant has been on an extended tour with Brandin to collect wood, tents and equipment needed for Festival Days. He had been gone for nearly two weeks and would be returning home soon, from what I imagined.
Life at the castle without the two has been...calm to say the least. Eugenia, Emma, the servants and I had begun preparing cloths, award ribbons and all the signs for Festival Days. We only had a week before Festival Days lasted, which was about two weeks of Festivities. There was a lot left to be done and no time to spare.
On top of Festival Days however, was the grant Festival Days Ball, an idea Eugenia had decided to incorporate into Festival Days. To kick off the Festival, she wanted to have a ball, where everyone could attend. Lords, Ladies, Princes, Princessess, etc. That way other kingdoms could form more attachments to Kurtley and Liversteam.
Which was true, Grant and I didn't attend many out of the castle events but many kingdoms nearby either had balls and parties too often, or something always came up when we had them. My father and I would limit travel to other balls as to establish my disconnect from others;as I was engaged to be engaged since before I could walk.Eugenia doing the same with Grant.
So while Grant was gone, Rogers and I had taken matters of estate and royal duties as well as party duties between the two of us. Luckily there weren't too many issues that arose as most were doing their own prepping for Festival Days and the Festival Days Ball.
The only major issue we had, was Terrance, Grant's manservant had been missing and no one had seen or heard from him for at least a week. Long after Grant and Brandin left. I wrote to inquire if maybe he decided to join the two and their parade but Grant responded that he had not. Nor had he given him leave.
So, I had servants frequently check his rooms, the stables and all the other areas he had been known to frequent. I even sent letters to nearby villages and his mother's cottage. All had not seen the young boy. Which was rather odd for him to disappear.
Grabbing my new day dress which was more suitable for the warm days and cool nights of early fall weather, dark green in color with long sleeves, lightweight with a lighter green colored apron on top.
My long blonde hair, now darkening from the disappearing sun, was simply brushed and lightly pulled back with a small circlet.
Breakfast was a simple ordeal, as Emma had taken the children to see her family today, Rogers was already awake and had eaten, leaving Eugenia who had begun sending out the Ball invitations for next Saturday. Just as I had finished my meal, a servant who came into the room was panting and sweating.
"My Queen! Something has happened with the King's mother, she simply fainted outside and when we took her to her rooms, she has been mumbling incoherently ma'am!" Rapidly standing, feeling this morning's breakfast and Emma's tea reach to the top of my throat I quickly washed it down with another gulp.
"Take me to her." The both of us, jogging to Eugenia's room.
"Has anyone informed the King?"
"No, ma'am. The physician however has been called."
"Good, I don't want the King here unless it's urgent. We will see what the physician says."
The servant, quickly rapping and opening the door to Eugenia's rooms, pointed me through the lounge and to the door on the far right to where I could hear Eugenia's cries. Hastily walking into her rooms, I sat in the chair besides the bed, grabbing her hand.
"Eugenia, can you hear me?" Instead of a reply I received more mumbling and groaning.
"Your Majesty, the physician." The man ran into the room, and went to the opposite side of the bed as I was on.
