Chapter One:

"Alivia, please hurry up! Grant and his family will be arriving soon!" Wilhelm cried out to his nine year old daughter. She sighed.

"Father, I can't find it! I have looked everywhere for it!" Her hair in a small braid on the back of her head. This year she decided that she would impress Grant and Brandin, that she too could wear pants and a shirt. Her brown pants, white shirt and red vest made her look like one of them.

"What in Heaven's name are you wearing!?" Her governess, Gilda spoke aloud upon entering her room with her father.

"I'm showing Brandin and Grant I can play and dress like them too!" She huffed and crossed her arms.

"You can wear that to the boat, but if you think I will let you wander around in that on your arrival to the castle you are mad child! You will not disgrace this kingdom dressed as some commoner!" She cried out, looking in her packed trunks for a dress to change into on the boat.

Wilhelm sighed, "She's right Allie dear, we can't dress like that today. But I am certain that when you have settled in your room, you could be allowed to wear whatever you would like to play in." Alivia smiled and nodded.

And then they traveled to the carriage that would take them to the boat. But hidden in the shadows stood a figure in a black cloak. Alivia saw the man, but said nothing. For she had seen this man once before.

It was last Christmas at Grant's castle, since he came to hers that summer.....

Alivia had been arguing with Brandin about a game they were playing, and looking for Grant in assistance, he laughed and joined Brandin in mocking her. "Listen Olive, us big kids-" "I'm a big kid too!" She said to them.

Grant and Brandin laughed. "You are eight years old, whereas we are eleven! We trump you little girl!" Grant said speaking to her, Brandin, rather large in weight nodded and laughed saying "Yeaa!"His fat little face smirked at Grant.

Alivia slipped out a tear on her face, it falling down the small amount of freckles she was starting to have on her soft cheeks.

She turned and ran out of the palace, with Grant and Brandin laughing at her the whole time. This was how every summer night, and Christmas would be, they would tease her till she cried. They thought she was weak, but she knew that she was. After all other princesses didn't cry.

"Why are you outside in the cold, young princess? It's not safe!" She turned towards the person who made the noise. But what she saw instead was a bush.

"Come out so I can see your face." She spoke, wiping her tears. But shivering. The cold winter wind causing her to shiver.

"Here, take my cloak, it will warm you." The man stepped out of the bushes. His black hair stuck out everywhere, his brown eyes shining with mischief, but she wouldn't know why that was just yet.

"Thanks." She said, wiping more tears. "Why are you crying?" He asked, holding her shoulder.

"Prince Grant, and his nasty cousin made fun of me again." The man smiled at her, "You let their words hurt you?"She looked at him, he had a bright smile she noticed.

"I didn't always.." She said to him. He kissed her on the top of her head saying to her "Well I think you are a strong princess, and you shouldn't let their words hurt you so." She smiled.
