Harry's POV
Japan — 9 months ago"Now, why on Earth would I go to a sunflower field?" I groan loudly, shaking my head as I turn to look back out at the window. Tall stems of the yellow petals shoot up throughout the field, so much that if I tried to count them all, I'd for sure lose count.
"You have a thing for sunflower fields, don't you?" Mitch speaks as he puts the car in park. "Sunflower fields, sunflower girls, sunflower tattoos, a specific sunflower tattoo on a specific sunflower girl..."
I groan again, turning to look at him to see him already looking at me with an expression that reads 'don't deny it.'
"Yeah, but this is weird, Mitch," I complain, throwing my head back against the seat. "This was just...this was just a thing I did with her, you know that. And now I'm here with you, and—"
"So you're saying you wouldn't want to be here with me?" Mitch asks, cutting me off as he feigns hurt. He's being awfully dramatic. I sigh.
"No, that's not—"
"That's what it sounds like," he interrupts me once again, and I groan for the third time. He's unbelievable.
"It's for inspiration! You were mumbling something about sunflowers, let's just sit down in the field and play the guitar, we'll bounce ideas off each other," Mitch replies, and before I open my mouth to speak, he's already out of the car with the door slammed shut behind him.
Fucking hell — he won't take no for an answer.
I unbuckle my seatbelt, running my hand through my hair before I climb out of the car, inhaling the fresh air. Even the air in Japan smells different, I don't know how to describe it...almost pure.
God, even the air reminds me of her.
We've been in Japan for a week now, and I can't say I haven't been enjoying it — the country is one of the most breathtaking places that I've ever been to, and I've met so many kind people here.
I follow Mitch through the field to see him a few feet ahead of me, guitar in hand. I'm suddenly reminded of that day all those months ago with Aurelia and I in the sunflower field out in Long Island.
Seeing her run out towards the sunflowers, frolicking between the endless rows of the yellow-stemmed petals...I couldn't tear my gaze away from the sight of her. She wore that pretty little yellow dress and it was like she disappeared within the field itself.
She was so vibrant, giggling quietly to herself as she and the flowers became one, dancing in the soft summer breeze. I couldn't help but laugh along with her as she disappears between the tall stems; her energy was contagious, filling me even in this vast, expansive field.
"I bet you can't find one as tall as this one, Harry!" I heard her shout out, and I turned in the direction of her voice.
Gotcha, golden girl.
I plucked a flower from a stem near me before I pushed myself through the stems, my eyes laying on her figure to see her already looking at me.
The small giggles that escaped her lips caused the widest grin to spread across my own face as her amber eyes flash down to the flower in my hands.
I twirled it with my fingers, taking a step closer to her. "I didn't, but I got this one instead," I replied, reaching my hand out to brush the loose strand of hair that had fallen across her cheek behind her ear. I then place the plucked sunflower behind her ear.
