I'm almost there, Essence thought, her sore wings battering the air around her. Although she already knew what to expect, her heart beat quickly with anticipation. The visions of her first day at Jade Mountain Academy grew stronger and more detailed at each passing day, and now she was going there. The Jade Mountain Academy, the most prestigious school in all of Pyrrhia.
She had turned 6 recently and her parents, Moonwatcher and Qibli, had finally let her go along with her best friend, Swellow.
Swellow was only a year older than Essence but almost twice as energetic. It's been a little over a year since she had her metamorphosis and grew wings. Despite being a Silkwing, she and her parents Luna and Swordtail lived in the Rain Kingdom with Essence and her parents. Their situation is... complicated, to say the least, due to Swellow's parents speaking out against the warmongering of Queen Mantis. They had fled first to the Hivewings but left for Pyrrhia after a failed assassination attempt.
Essence could tell that Swellow was buzzing with excitement even without her mind-reading. She was surprised that she managed to outfly her parents but not so surprised that Swellow could keep up with her. The Silkwing was a strong flyer, and Essence bet that she was a good fighter, as well. Actually, she knew.
"Getting tired?" Swellow teased, slowing down slightly so that the two dragons flew alongside each other. It was embarrassingly obvious that Essence would need to take a break soon.
"No," Essence responded, exaggerating the word. "I'm not stopping until I reach Jade Mountain." But her head hung.
She wanted to get there as soon as possible, feel the stone beneath her claws, learn everything possible. She flapped harder, much to Swellow's amusement, to close the gap between her and the great academy. She wanted to become the Greatest Seer Ever, even rivaling Clearsight!
An insect nearly flew up her nostril and she tossed her head with a snort. She had been having some odd visions lately, involving an older-looking version of herself with an enormous Sandwing, reading with a Skywing, duelling with Swellow (and losing, of course), comforting a fierce-looking Seawing. Most of her visions came quickly in bursts and left, but these ones lingered in her mind. In all of these visions, she said these words out loud:
"Fear the Whispers..."
She never told anyone about these types of visions, not even her mother, the first seer in two thousand years.
"I think you might make it to the Jade Mountain, Essence," Swellow said, breaking through Essence's thoughts. She flew in a lazy circle around her.
"Yeah, well, I think I will," Essence responded with a pant. With an effort, she lifted her head to see the white clouds circling the twin peaks of Jade mountain like flags.
This would be the start of her and her friends' journey.
A journey so great that they would be remembered as heroes and cement their legacy into the history scrolls!
Essence entered a dive.
I've made it!
