Essence was walking back to her cave to talk to Swellow, almost crushing the scroll in her claws. She was hit with a flurry of conflicting emotions, all swirling within her, anger, worry, curiosity, and much more. She was thinking about that vision. The one with Scorpion.

What was that last vision about? Ahahahaha.

She was also worried about others thinking she was just some freak and worried that the Icewing in her winglet would be just as bad.

I think his name was Tundra...

Essence reached her cave to see Swellow sitting on a moss-lined rock ledge with her old sword unsheathed. She was looking at it closely, turning it between her claws as if she was examining it.

For as long as Essence had known her, Swellow always had a sword by her side and was very proficient with it. She knew Swellow wanted to learn how to use a sword after she was almost killed by an assassin before her family fled to Pyrrhia. After her metamorphosis she created her own style of dueling using her silk to tie up her foes. Essence has seen her duel several Rainwings and Nightwings before and she almost always won.

But Swellow's sword was old and nothing special, and she knew she wanted to change that.

"Hey, Essence," Swellow said her bright eyes clouding with worry when she saw how tense Essence was. She lowered the weapon in her claws. "Is something wrong? What happened?"

"I had a run-in with an Icewing named Frost." Essence said and she set her scrolls down on a ledge beside her friend's.

"He said something to upset you, didn't he?"

"He called me a freak hybrid," Essence muttered, knowing what came next.

"WHAT!?" Swellow roared, standing up quickly and letting the sword clatter to the floor. Her mind flashed with anger and thoughts of payback and more anger.

"It's fine. I think. He got what he had coming." Essence laid a calming wing on Swellow, who was still burning with fury. "A sandwing named Scorpion stood up for me and nearly broke his arm."

"And?" Swellow asked. She was still fuming.

"And what?" Essence replied, confused.

"You had a vision, didn't you," Swellow said. Essence knew she could not lie her way out of this as Swellow was excellent at reading dragons, sometimes even better than herself, the dragon that could read minds.

"Yes," Essence admitted.

"Well, what did you see?" Swellow asked in excitement. Almost all of her rage was gone now, tucked away in a safe place.

"The visions were a nothing out of the ordinary but the last one was... strange," Essence started. She took a breath. "It-"

Suddenly there were claw steps by the cave entrance.

We'll discuss this later, Essence heard from Swellow's mind as a dark blue Seawing head came through the door.

"Hey. Am I in the right cave? Swellow and Essence, right? I like your wings, they're really pretty," she said, flicking her tail at Essence.

Essence was taken by surprise. "T-thanks a lot," she replied. She thought they were pretty? I thought they only made people stare at me. Her chest swelled with pride.

"That's right, you must be Kraken, right?" Swellow answered.

A vision popped into Essence's mind. Swellow and Kraken, duelling with swords. Swellow and Kraken, laughing and sharing a cow. Swellow and Kraken, on a moonlit balcony. All three of them now, flying together over the sea with Scorpion, the pale Skywing, an Icewing and am odd Hivewing behind them. Swellow and Kraken, killing each other. Blue and purple, swirling in so many futures.
