❝ and you don't seem the lying kind ❞

pearls and stone, pearls and stone.

nicolette gave herself a few looks in the mirror while trying to put on the right outfit, from blue to red, pearls to a beret. she would groan and sigh at each outfit that did not go well with her posterior, not even a pair of tights could do the job.

it was a final made decision once her eyes laid on a red knee-length skirt stood from the closet, she tucked in her white long sleeve blouse. nicolette skipped over to her dresser for a few pearls and bracelet her father once gifted to her on her 13th birthday, a year before it all came crashing down.

"first date, daddy, i could see you glaring down at the boy you never want by my side. hell, maybe even any boy." nicolette said to the metal picture frame standing by her jewelry box. "i'll visit momma tomorrow, just to tell her the big deal."

two small knocks by her front door, nicolette grabbed her red blazer and white heels. the door opened to reveal a sodapop curtis standing in front of her with a bouquet of flowers in his hand and that same old smile he always forms to the ladies.

"hiya, doll." he chuckled.

"oh hey, almost ready but suit yourself to the house." she welcomed him in while struggling to connect the pearls through her ears. "if you don't mind, could you set those flowers in a vase, they're in the right side cabinet of my kitchen."

"no problem." soda says before heading over to the kitchen.

nicolette pecks her father's photo before pushing down the light switch and shutting the brown wooden door, soda was already done with the flowers and had himself seated on her green velvet couch.

"nice place, getting a little homey than usual." soda complimented.

"thanks, we chose this place since it was much closer to home." nicolette looked around.

"we, as in?" soda didn't know who or what she was talking about.

"oh, my momma. she currently lives alone since my brother's on the other side of the world, dad is buried 6 feet under." nicolette explained while putting on her heels, jumping up and down just to wiggle it over her heel.

"you know, the sides of the couch are a great support for girls who struggle to get their heels over their foot." soda joked, nicolette rolled her eyes.

nicolette finally got the latch in, "ready?"

soda nods in a reply, held out his arm but instead, she took his hand into hers. they walked out with their heads held high while passing the neighbors, lily and sarah were running down the halls but never had a 'hello' or 'hi' to say to nicolette nor sodapop.

soda wasn't allowed to take darry's car due to untrusting circumstances, nicolette didn't mind, in fact she was fine with a little walking to the nightly double, she needed to use a little walk once in a while.

a bunch of socs gave soda the dirty look while staring down his dirty jeans and flannel. nicolette was the kind of person to go against what other people think of greasers, meaning she's against people's thoughts about greasers being a snob to society.

as they walk up to the ticket stand, soda pulls out $5 in exchange for $2.82 and a warm smile to get the female worker to adore, that went according to plan as per usual.

"you find us a spot, i'll get us a coke." nicolette stated, soda nodded before pecking her on the cheek.

nicolette dug through her purse with a few quarters, not remembering the price of a regular coke has been raised, not to mind her not being in the nightly double since she was a little girl in flats.

the auburn hair girl left the concession stand with the two cups, over to her date who was already enjoying the boredom the movie was giving him. soda grew a huge smile as nicolette walked towards him with his drink held out in front of him.

every second of the movie forced a yawn across both soc and greaser's mouth, nicolette was taken away by how a judy garland movie is disappointing her, soda wasn't a fan of her work but was only into the movie for his date.

soda leaned in close to her ear, "you just want to ditch this place, i think i want to make home in time just to ask pony a billion questions on how he enjoys a shit show."

"i'd love that." nicolette whispered.

the two exited the nightly double with their hands in one, nicolette watched the stars every step she took as soda admired her features she carried. nicolette made it in front of her building but led soda up the stairs to the same rooftop from yesterday.

"i can finally see the stars without all the smoke." soda was in awe from the view.

"it's a dream." nicolette was sarcastically wowing his mind.

soda looked down from the edge where all the bright lights were shining, exposing each store that always displayed mannequins or a baker's cake. from a small business building, elvis presley was on, soda took nicolette's hand in his and began swaying her around.

wise men say, only fools rush in

"the sodapop curtis dancing?" nicolette asked in shock, wrapping her arms around his neck.

"pretty good, right?" soda joked with a girl rolling her eyes in front of him.

take my hand, take my whole life too

"did you know i love you?" soda meant the three last words.

"did you know i love you too?" nicolette smirked, pressing her lips against his.

for i can't help, falling in love with you

the night held the two together...
