❝ i am tired of my grief ❞soda had revealed to his brothers he was leaving for vietnam, the night before he was supposed set sail. the gang had stopped by to say their goodbyes, even dally who was hands down upset about soda leaving.
"if you die, can i get nicolette?" dally smirked, everyone glared at him. "i'm kidding! take a joke, man."
"speaking of nicolette, if she comes around when i'm not here, tell her that i miss her and love her and that i'd be writing to her." soda said softly.
"will do, kid brother." darry ruffled his hair, knowing that'd be the last time he'd be doing that. "now get going, ya got a train to catch."
soda nodded before picking up his bag and placing them in the back of the cab, he took one last look at the gang who was waving goodbye from the porch, he switched gazes to the back of the passenger seat.
the car made a stop to the train station where most men were kissing their wives, children, girlfriends goodbye. soda sat on the wooden bench for his train to come, holding nicolette's picture in his hand and giving it a small peck.
as this was going on; nicolette drove her car to soda's house, unaware that soda has already left for the train station. her purse in her hand with her heels loudly clicking against the floor, freshly painted nails tapping onto the wooden door.
two-bit answered the door but only to make a face as if he saw a ghost, "nicolette?! what are you doing here?"
"i came here to see soda, is he here?" nicolette snuck in a quick search behind two-bit.
"no i'm sorry, he just left for the train station." two-bit frowned.
"train station? where is he heading off to?" nicolette looked at him confused.
"you didn't hear? soda's leaving for war." two-bit explained, nicolette immediately dropped everything.
she ran to her car where she sped up onto the road, ignoring all old folks yelling at her for driving like a maniac, her mascara tears were slowly coming down from her eyes as she blamed herself for making soda want to go to war after their breakup.
nicolette parked by the other cars as she ran for the stop, there was soda sitting on the bench looking at nicolette's picture, he didn't even notice the girl running until he heard the same heels.
soda's head shot up to see nicolette a few inches away from him, he held out his arms as nicolette crashed into them, her head buried into his chest. soda didn't even complain about her tears staining his uniform.
"soda, i'm sorry! i want to be with you, just please don't leave me!" nicolette sobbed. "take me with you, please!"
"i don't want you to get hurt, doll." soda teared up with his fingers slowly stroking her hair.
"promise me you'll write?" nicolette looked up to face him.
"always, promise me you'll be here next year waiting for me?" soda asked, she nodded.
they stared at each other for a little while until soda leaned in with his lips a centimeter away from hers, nicolette moved her palms up his cheeks where their lips collided with each other, soda's hands glued onto her waist.
the conductor had tooted his horn as he called for all men to come aboard, soda pecked nicolette's forehead one last time before carrying his bag up the carpeted stairs of the train, his gaze out the window where nicolette was following him to his seat.
her fingers stuck to the foggy window of soda's seat, his by hers but only to be divided by the glass, the train made it's sound making it clear to the women that they were taking off. nicolette started running with the train but stopped as it picked up speed.
soda was now further away from his sobbing girl, he also had tears in his eyes as he kept reminding himself that the day they got together; he was already leaving for a risk in his life. nicolette stayed at the train station for a good 30 minutes before heading back to her car.
life had to drift them apart...
