53 years later...
nicolette laid pale and sick in her hospital bed, soda never let go of her hand as he sat by her side for the duration of the two months she was placed on bed rest, their children who are already grown adults have stopped visiting since the first day nicolette was placed on an iv.
"soda?" nicolette's voice broke.
"right here, doll." soda squeezed her hand gently.
"never forget that i love you, tell our kids that i love them too, and never forget the first day our eyes met. hell, maybe even tell our kids that, margaret and avery would be so grossed out." nicolette tried laughing but ended the sentence with a small cough.
"never forget that i'll always be here." soda teared up while staring at his wife's face.
nicolette took a look at the window where the sunset was out, always remembering the day soda asked her out for the first time, she turned back to soda who pecked her lips one last time.
nicolette's eyes slowly closed with a broken smile, her monitor went off, a nurse walked in to turn it off but only to stare at soda's tears falling down. soda stood up and wrapped his arms around nicolette, closing his eyes to remember her days.
it wasn't long for both to leave this earth with them in their arms, you could say nothing really broke them apart, not even the war from 1966. nicolette's hospital room lights went off, leaving the two alone.
the world left nothing but two souls together...
