My house doesn't look the same.
I stand in front of it, my heart pounding, lungs contracting. This is going to be the hardest thing I've ever done.
Joshua is next to me his face in an oddly wistful manner. He knows what I have to do. Tell my family how I've betrayed them. How I've put them all in danger. That's was the one thing I feared, not my death, I feared the death and danger of my family.
Who knew I'd be the one to cause the danger.
The one who summoned the storm.
And if I don't convince them to come with me to the Dark House, who knows what the hurricane will look like.
I exhale and look at Joshua. "What if they won't trust me anymore?"
He looks at me straight in the eye, piercing me. "They will. Families like yours don't break that easily."
I nod and look back at the door and I pound my fist against the door.
It opens the light shedding against the inky blackness from the night sky. My mother opened it. Her hair is twisted in knots, sticking to the sweat that drips from her face. It's grayer than it was a few days ago. I know it is. And she looks at me with an expression I can only take as hate.
"Did he do it to you?" She asks, fear clenching her voice.
"Who's he?"
Her eyes widen and she looks away. "Nothing, nothing."
I bite my lip. "Look, I don't know how much you saw, but I promise that I would never do anything with a Sun-"
"I know that." She says. "I saw you stand up to them today."
I take a hitched breath. "You're not mad?"
"Not at you." She replied. "What I am mad about is how you failed to tell me how you managed to become a Sun and infiltrate the Council. I'm also mad about you putting yourself in unnecessary danger. This is why I hope you're here to make sure that you will never do that again. I almost lost you once and it's not going to happen again." Her voice became lower almost a growl.
"It's too late for that-" I start and she cuts me off.
"No. No. I can't lose you. Saiya can't lose you. You've been the only thing holding us together. Stop being selfish playing some little game-"
"I am not playing a game!" I hiss that heat rising to my cheeks. "I'm doing this for you and her. I've done everything to you."
"If you did then get out of this charade."
"I'm doing this for us! You don't understand. You can't judge me if you don't even know what's going on. In a few weeks, we could be in the Shadowlands. we could have a life and think about all the Shadows who can't. I'm helping them. I'm the only one who will." I blink back angry tears.
My mother sniffles. "The heroes never have the happy endings. Someone else can be the chosen one. There has to be some way to get you to come home. We have each other and that's all we need."
"No," I say my voice cold. "I chose this and I was never destined to have a happy ending anyway."
I see a glimmer of a tear slide down her cheek, the water reflecting the dim light of the candles. "If you don't, then I won't be able to live."
"I know. I feel the same way which is why you have to come with me. I've made some powerful enemies and you're my only weakness. They're going to come after you, but we have a safe house and there's plenty of room. Saiya could go to school there and I'm living there. We could be together again." My voice breaks on the last word.
My mother leans her head back and looks at the sky, almost like she's praying. "You didn't have to ask you know. I'd go to the ends of the Earth with either of you."
I don't say anything to that, reminded that I'm the reason they have to pack up everything and leave, run for our lives. I bite my lip, letting a hint of metallic blood trickle into my mouth. "Pack everything. We can't come back here."
"I know."
And it's all because of me.
A/N: Wowowow, it's been such a long time since I uploaded. School started for me again and I'm drowning in homework. I was just so tired and had some writer's block for these scenes so it's been a while. Please comment and vote! We are still really really close to 100 votes and we only need three more!!!
