"I'm gonna kill you, bitch!" I run down a dilapidated state highway, not quite recognizing it but registering its vague familiarity. My feet should be hurting, or some part of me should, but no. Physically, the only thing affecting me is the terror ripping through my body.

Someone is chasing me. I don't know who. I knew Emily isn't there whatsoever, almost as though she doesn't exist here. This person, whoever it is, does in fact know me and has every intention of ending my life.

Fully aware I can't outrun him, I try nonetheless. He catches up with me, and is about to rip my body apart. I can't get a good look at him before—

"Galina!" Emily looked exhausted and horrified. I could feel how wide my eyes were open, fear still on my face before I could register that I was awake.

"I'm..." I went to tell her I was up, but I could hardly breathe. Emily was barely touching me. My body was nearly frozen, paralyzed by fear, but I actively fought this by moving my trembling hand to touch her cheek.

"Baby, it's all okay." She took my hand and massaged my palm with her thumb. "You're awake. You're fine, my love,"

"I woke you up," I realized. "I'm sorry,"

"Shh, no, no apologies, love. Can you try and go back to sleep?" I moved closer to her to get her to hold me.

"Only if we cuddle," I mumbled in a childish voice I knew she'd adore. She smiled and kissed my head.

"Of course, my love." Her arms snaked around me and held me to her body. "Kisses?"

I smiled and moaned, "Mm, is that even a question?"

She chuckled, scratched my scalp, and kissed me over and over until I went to sleep.

Upon waking up, I found my girlfriend playing with my hair and whispering something unintelligible to me. It was an idyllic morning. I moaned slightly as I woke up and Emily sighed.

"Morning, lovely," I greeted her. She was about to say something similar to me, and smiled when I said it to her. "Don't let go of me," I added on.

Emily just held me tighter. "Never, baby." She kissed all over my face. "You feel so good here with me," she mumbled. "I love you,"

"I love you," I repeated.

"Can I—I don't wanna do anything more, I just wanna run my hands over your body, beautiful,"

"Yeah, love, that's good..."

Emily knew right were to touch me to make me feel good. She kissed my face and neck as she felt me up, and I let her hear my gentle moans.

Emily kissed me throughout the morning as we got ready, and she stopped me from putting on makeup to just hold me in the bathroom. "What?" I laughed. She wrapped her arms around my torso from behind me. Her lips found their home on my neck.

"Nothing, angel. I just want to spend all the time in the world with you. I love my girl,"

"And I love mine."

Emily was definitely trying to make me feel better that morning. To some extent, it was working, but she and I both knew that pain couldn't be loved away.

Emily went out to get us lunch, as I insisted to work through much of my lunch break. (She had none of that, and said I needed to take a break.) She entered the office to see me still doing paperwork, greeting me with a frown.

"Galya..."

"I know, Em, I know what you're gonna say." I arranged my papers into a file and shut it. "I should take a break, relax for a few minutes, actually make time for lunch..."

She grabbed my hand and pulled me up to her office to eat with her. She brought a chair to her side of the desk so I could sit beside her instead of across from her. "Thank you," I finally said to her. She smiled.

"You're welcome. And, love..." I looked down, knowing where she was going with this. Emily took my hand and said, "I've been with you long enough that I know you're not doing well. If you need or want anything at all, love, all you've gotta do is tell me. I'd give you the world if you asked. Got it?"

I nodded. "I know, Em. Thank you, my love." She kissed my hand and smiled.

"Were you alright this morning?" she asked very gently. I took a bite of my sandwich in lieu of a response. "Baby..."

"Em, I'm fine, I really am. I just had a nightmare, I'm fine,"

"Okay." She nodded and stroked the back of my hand with her thumb. "Would you tell me if you weren't fine?"

I pulled a smile. "Yes, beautiful. Now, uh, can we maybe talk about this later? We're kind of at work," I chuckled awkwardly. Emily glanced around and went in for a quick peck of my cheek.

"Yeah, okay. I love you, angel,"

"Love you, Ems."

She stole smiles throughout our day, and when we finally got home, she pulled me to sit on her lap on the couch. "My beautiful girl," she muttered between kisses to my head, "how about I kiss your neck? Would you be good with that?"

"Mhm," I hummed.

Her lips were so gentle, and her intermittent words so sweet, I nearly fell asleep there. Her kisses migrated from my neck to my head, moving between them. To break this perfect moment, her phone started ringing.

She knew I was sleepy — we'd gotten home rather late, and Emily was well aware of how tired I got when I was going through this mental turmoil — and shushed me back to my state of not-really-asleep.

"Чё?" I mumbled, laying my head against her chest. This word, she recognized, meant 'what?'. My eyes were closed, I was worn out. "No case, please,"

"No..." she said, clearly confused at whatever she'd seen. "Baby, let me take this, I'll be right back,"

"No, don't leave me..." I whined. Despite my protests, Emily got up and went to take the call in our bedroom. I didn't bother listening, I just wanted her back with me.

After almost ten minutes, she returned and said, "Love, why don't we go into bed, hmm? I'm tired, I know you are too,"

"'Kay," I mumbled. She got me into bed, her arm holding me to her, with my head on her shoulder. "What was that all about?" I wondered sleepily.

"Nothing too important, angel. Nothing that can't wait until morning. Let's just sleep, we can deal with it tomorrow, m'kay?"

"Goodnight, Emmy,"

"Goodnight, sweet girl."
