Mufida strolled down the mall, her eyes focused on searching for the thing she was looking for. A smile crept its way to her lips as she picked up the item and shoved it inside the basket. "Alhamdulillah, I'm done." she sighed clutching the handle of the basket tightly as she approach the counter to pay her fees.
She dropped the basket on the dashboard, the cashier lady picked them up, scanned them, then turn to mufida with a wide smile. "15,600 naira, ma'am"
Mufida brought out her card and passed it to her, the other guy beside the lady handed her her things, he was done packing them into the leather. She collected it with her card and left the mall.
She brought her sunglasses down and walked down to the parking lot, she was about to get into her car, when a familiar voice stopped her.
"Mufida?"Haidar called not sure if it was mufida he saw, he hope that his eyes are not deceiving him, but he remembered Ridwan telling him that she is back.
When she turned to look at the person, a smile unknowingly made its way to Haidar's lips. "Mufida!" he called again this time cheerfully. She wanted to smile at him so badly and apologize because their last encounter didn't end well but her aching heart will never allow her to do that.
It pains!
Haidar took a few steps forward, she removed her sun shades and raised her head looking anywhere but not at him.
"Mufida..." he weighed,he wanted to say sorry but how many times will he say that to her knowing that she will never listen to him the only thing he knows is that he won't give up. "You are back...uhmm...."
She had to suppress back her laughter because how Haidar couldn't find his words. "Haidar, are you stalking me?." she questioned amused.
"No, I'm not."he objected, shaking his head still taken aback by her question. Why would she even think that he was stalking her? "Fate always finds its way to bring us together."
"Stop talking gibberish, Haidar." she hissed and shook her head irritatedly.
"My love for you is not gibberish, do you remember the promise we made to each other?"
The memories flashed through her head within a second, she remembered the promise why would she forget it when it was very close to her heart? "How could I forget the promise that ruined my life? The promise that shattered and broke me to pieces."
He closed his eyes and took in a deep breath, this wasn't the answer he was expecting from her. "I haven't broken that promise but you did, I never knew the love we have between us was that weak ."
"I wasn't the one who broke the promise but you Haidar. And don't even talk about the love we have because there was none, it was a mere mistake that I made because of childishness but I won't repeat that mistake ever again. Loving you was the biggest mistake I've ever made in my life Haidar."
"Are you saying that the thing we had between us I s a mistake to you?."
She felt layers of emotions, the waterworks have already started their job. "Yes Haidar and I will say it again and again with no regret."he didn't say anything to her, he just smiled weakly and sadly at her and walked off. With every step he takes his heart becomes heavy with mufida's words echoing in his head.
A warm tear slipped down his cheeks, he didn't have enough energy to go shopping because he will probably collapse, he won't be able to take it. He entered his car and shut the door, breathing in and out he rested his head on the stirring wheel.
The sound of his annoying ringtone forced him out of his trance. Glancing at the caller a small smile appeared at the end of his lips, he tapped on the accept button and placed the phone against his ear.
"Where are you?."Halima's voice blasted immediately after he answered the call. He rubbed his face with his palm and sighed. "I should've listened to Ya Hisham and never let you go buy something for me."she blabbered and sighed.
"My car broke down on my way there, I'm at the mechanic."he lied scratching his forehead, he isn't good with lying but he managed to lie and didn't get caught to save mufida but he is paying for that now.
"What did the mechanic say, is your baby okay?." she asked taunting him because he never allowed her to go near his car or even think of driving it.
"I don't know yet," he replied curtly.
"Okay bro, but what about my shoes and perfume, you know my birthday party is tomorrow right?."
"But that won't stop the birthday party right and I don't think you should trust Hisham with that cake," he suggested nodding his head as if she could see him.
"Oh please Haidar, stop being jealous. Hisham is more of a responsible person than you." she teased and an unknown smile appeared on his lips.
"That, I agree."He chucked lightly and listened to her rant about everything and nothing. He was already tired, so he made up an excuse and cut the call.
