"Hange," (Y/N) breathed, freezing like a deer caught in headlights. What were they doing here early? The flash drive was still sticking out and if Hange saw, they would know what she was doing within seconds. There was only one reason why she would input a flash drive into their computer--to steal data.
"Hey, it was very boring up there and Erwin said I didn't have to stay, so I decided to come down early," Hange said lightly. Their gaze bore deep into her soul, almost questioning what she was doing.
Hange hadn't seen it yet. She could still salvage this situation. "Oh. That's good. I was getting bored alone. I did quite a lot of work though..."
"Oh, did you, dear?" Hange said softly, walking slowly towards the desk (Y/N) was sitting at. She was much closer to their computer than when they had left the room. (Y/N) didn't know what to do. Her heart was roaring thunderously but at the same time, it felt as if it wasn't working anymore. She felt the air being knocked out of her lungs and felt absolutely petrified. She didn't know why, but she felt as if Hange wasn't a very kind person when they were angry.
"Uh, yeah," (Y/N) stuttered. Hange walked even closer, their eyes trained on hers. They didn't look towards the computer; they didn't notice the protruding flash drive. There was something different about their demeanor though, they didn't seem like the same person who had brought her here around an hour ago. Their usually bright eyes were dark and calculating, their eyebrows brought closer together, their lips curved in an unknown expression.
"Hmm, what work have you completed?" Hange leaned in, their breath tickling her skin. Even though it seemed like it, the current situation was not intimate. It was more like a predator cornering their prey. Hange wasn't cheerful or happy. They were intimidating. More intimidating than (Y/N) had ever seen them before. Did they know? Had they figured it out?
"I, uh, wrote...wrote some of the materials lists," (Y/N) said weakly.
"Is that so?" Hange hummed, one of their fingers going underneath her chin and lifting her face so that they maintained eye contact.
"Y-yeah."
Hange let out a slow sigh, their hair fluttering as they did. They looked disappointed. "Oh (Y/N)...do you think I'm stupid?"
"What?" (Y/N)'s heart caught in her throat.
"Do you think I'm an idiot who would be so oblivious they wouldn't notice a company spy? Do you think I'm so dumb that I wouldn't notice an infiltrator? Oh darling, I practically made this company all by myself. I think I have a keen sense of judgment," Hange's voice came out deeper than normal, their fingers still gripping onto her chin.
They knew. Oh God, they knew.
Unable to speak or come up with an explanation, (Y/N) just stood silently, guilt and mortification spreading throughout her body. Her arms hung limply by her sides, and she couldn't even tear her gaze away. Hange's grip was too strong. With their other hand, Hange reached for the flash drive that was inside the computer. They didn't even have to turn their head, they knew exactly where it was.
"You've really messed up," Hange chuckled darkly. "Paradis has had its fair share of company infiltrators before. We actually have a protocol set up in place. What did Marley think they'd achieve by sending you, hmm? Figure out all my plans? Discover my blueprints? Don't tell me that you were sent to destroy me, that would be idiotic. I know they're talentless, but they didn't have to stoop this low..."
(Y/N)'s eyes widened. How did they know she was from Marley? How long had they known she didn't belong? Speak, she tried getting her mouth to open, but staring into Hange's captivating eyes rendered her absolutely frozen.
