"No.... no no no, please, no," tears trickled down my face in panic. A burning sensation spread up the wing Todoroki grabbed only seconds ago. My wings flapped frantically, yanking my body through the air without my control. I screamed in pain when I felt the flames ascend my wing, it stung and lingered. Some feathers turned black and some even fell off, floating down to the earth below. "Mal!" I heard Sero Mina's exasperated and faded call from meters below me. "Root! Please stay calm!" Iida's desperate voice pleaded from I don't know how far.

I couldn't breathe.

Next, I began to fall with my back facing the ground. My wings felt numb and my vision began to blur. I tried to scream but my lungs burned, my throat tightened. My eyes looked up in a panic, mostly white wings flapping limp upwards towards the sky. This felt too familiar for my liking.

I cried, or as close to it as I could, when I felt the familiar feeling of my skeleton forcing my wings back into my body. The arena filled with gasps and screamed. All I could do is fall; there's no way to fight gravity like this. Then I remember explosions. Yes, very loud explosions coming my way. It felt as if all of my senses focused on them all at once; they kept me in one piece. My eyes desperately searched but from the wind in my face and curls fluttering rapidly in my line of sight, I couldn't find the source. Though, deep in me I already knew who they belonged to.

"Damnit, Cleopatra!" A body crashed into mine while strong arms wrapped around my pitiful descending form protectively. As if an angel sent from heaven, I clung to him for dear life. I'm sure his skin had small marks from my nails digging into it like a terrified kitten. My arms wrapped around his tense shoulders and his found their way around my waist, holding me almost too tightly that it hurt.

I gasped and cried into his shoulder, finally finding the strength to breathe once I knew I wouldn't get seriously injured, burned, or die from the fall. Of course, none of that would happen while, quite frankly, surrounded by hero's but the fear was still there. For a second, we stayed this way. Both plummeting while purely enjoying the company of each other.

"Hold on, Mal, I've got you," his voice came out breathless and tense. I'm not sure if I wanted to laugh at him trying to sound comforting or sigh in relief; his calming voice needed to be worked on before saving any real civilians. Wait... what did he just call me? Before I could think more into it, one arm let go of my waist to fire off explosions that would soften our landing before I wrapped my legs around his torso tightly in fear of plummeting to my doom once again.

Before I knew it, the loud buzzer notified the end of this dreadful cavalry battle and I was safe on the ground again.

"Time's Up!" Present Mic's booming voice hollered over the many speakers in the arena, "That's the end of the second round, the Cavalry Battle!"

I'd be lying if I claimed to not forget about the whole Sports Festival while death hung over my shoulders. Bakugou handed me over to a tear-stained Mina Ashido while she clung to me for dear life. She cried into my neck and wrapped her arms around my torso tightly, I fought back the cry of pain for her sake. My wings still haven't come out yet, which was strange because they've never acted on their own. All the while, my whole backside felt burned, stretched, and punctured. It was always painful having my wings in my body but it's an ache I've grown used to. Iida and Sero stood around us with worried expressions, in fact, most of my classmates crowded me. Even Mineta's face contorted into one of worry, as opposed to his usual creepy smirk or perverted gaze.

When I loosened my grip around my pink friend, she let go and eyed me.

"Did we qualify?" My voice came out strained and airy. The crowd around us let out a huge sigh and a few light chuckles along with it. All I could do was turn my gaze towards the digital scoreboard, leaning into Mina for support. My adrenaline rush seemed to be coming down which meant I felt every burn, blister, and stretch my body has gone through in the past 20 seconds.
