Shoving the classroom door open quickly, Malaika did everything but sprint down the crowded school hallway. Hugging her book bag close to her chest, she never wanted to disappear more in her life. As the event that had just occurred in the 1A classroom played over in her head, her vision began to blur. The girl's eyes were welling up with tears.

"Lai, wait!!" A familiar voice, belonging to her best friend, boomed throughout the hallway cutting cleanly through the regular school chatter and straight to her ears. A silence fell upon the usual dismissal crown - not one of then daring to miss any extra drama.

Not wanting to make more of a scene she turned around to grab her best friend's hand then resumes speed walking down the hallway; she continued pushing past whoever is in the way. Of course, loud protests erupted from the boy's mouth yelling things like "let go" and "look at me". They fell upon deaf ears.

"Lai, let go of me!! Tell me why I shouldn't go back to blow those damn idiots to pieces!" He cried out in rage. Pure wrath painted all over his face when the girl turned around to take a glance at him. As they finally enter a less crowded area of the school, Malaika turned towards him.

He heard her sniffling quietly.

"It's okay Bakugou, they didn't mean any harm," she said in a low, heartbreaking tone. Her wings fell sadly behind her as she lifted her head. Looking into her friend's bright red eyes, getting ready to use her quirk on him.

"Don't you dare try to calm me down," he stated sternly, looking down at the girl.

The moistness from her eyes threatened to spill down her face but she refused to cry, not over them... not over this.

"It's okay-"

"No, it isn't okay!! Lai, they insulted you!"

"They didn't mean to. They didn't know..."

"Know what?! That racial stereotypes aren't true?! Lai, why are you always taking the high road??? Why can't you just-"

"Because I am not aggressive! I am not the ghetto black girl. I am not the loud black woman. I refuse to be labeled and give into those stereotypes," She stated looking right into Bakugou's eyes.

The tears she hoped to keep in, spilled out involuntarily. It seemed as if she didn't care anymore.

"But... they're wrong! I-it isn't fair!" Screamed the blonde. Tears now started building up in his eyes too. The sight of his bubbly, happy, beautiful angel of a friend breaking down in this state ultimately led him down a similar path.

The brown girl could feel his palms heating put in her own. She wasn't afraid though. She knew he'd never hurt her. Even though Malaika and Bakugou haven't known each other for a long time, they've built the trust of childhood friends.

A hush falls between the two. Light from the window they stood beside made Malaika's tears sparkle as they hit the ground. Clutching onto the boy's hand for dear life.

"They didn't know...," Removing her hand from his grip she wiped away a few stray tears. She turned to walk towards the exit closest to where she stood. Regrettably, it was in a different direction. Away from him. The clicking of her shoes made a slight echoing sound, due to the emptiness of this hallway.

"They're just kids," was her final statement in the conversation. Or, was what she thought would be before the boy said something that she's never thought about before.

"So are you."

She understood that people would stare. But my god, she didn't have to look at her in the way they did.
