"Dang Chlo, you look dead," Winter commented as we walked into the building. I stifled a yawn. Note to self: Don't ever use sleeping pills again. The effects are-
Wait. What did Winter call me?
"Don't call me Chlo!" I grumbled. Winter lifted an eyebrow.
"Um, okay?" she said in a confused tone.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to just snap on you like that," I immediately apologized.
"No need to apologize, we all have those days," she said as we pushed through the crowds of students, "What's got you irritated though?"
"Well you see-" I stopped right in my tracks. Leaning against my locker, in all of his glory, was the god himself, Nick Bates.
He waved as soon as he saw me.
"That's my problem," I sighed as Nick walked over to Winter and I. She gave a tiny "oh" as a response.
Nick's face turned up into a smirk as he walked over and it took all of my willpower to not gasp. How in the world did he look good in the morning?! Winter chuckled, probably amused beyond belief. This wasn't funny! Everyone was staring at Nick as he neared me, the player approaching the nobody.
"Were you talking about me?" he asked, his smirk threatening to turn into a full-blown smile. I looked away, trying to avoid being mushy.
"It was nothing good. Go away," I tried my best to sound dismissing. Winter almost choked at my tone. She could tell I was trying.
"Something funny?" Nick addressed Winter, his tone visibly darker than when he was talking to me.
"No," Winter tried desperately to hold in her giggles, "Not at all."
"Well, we're going to go to class now. Bye! Don't see me. Ever!" I yelled as I dragged Winter behind me and brushed right past him. I could hear him laugh as he walked over to his own locker. Behind him, he left a path of whispers and glares, all of them directed towards me.
"It was nothing good. Go away," Winter mocked, her voice going way too low.
"I do NOT sound like that," I said as I grabbed my stuff.
"Yea yea, sure sure," Winter said as she caught up with Ariel to walk to their next class together. Sighing, I headed to my first class, trying to avoid the dirty looks that all of the pick-me girls were giving me.
"What do you think he sees in her? Maybe he wanted something unique this time. I guess this time he was going for a rat virgin," Hailey, a blonde bimbo, whispered loud enough from pretty much everyone to hear. The girls around her snickered as my mood dropped.
"Why so gloomy in the morning cheesecake?" Nick said when he appeared out of nowhere.
"First, Chlo then cheesecake, you sure are horrible at nicknames," I grumbled, "What do you want?"
Completely ignoring me, he grabbed my arm and asked, "Where's your first class?"
My body reacted to his physical touch, almost as if I was shocked. My arm was burning from where he was grabbing it. Almost as if he read my mind, he dropped my arm, like as if he had been shocked too.
I stuttered, "L-Loren, Lorenson."
I gave myself a mental kick.
He said quietly, "I have Andrews. We're walking the same way. Let's go."
We walked, side-by-side to our class. I followed quietly, and he did the same. There was an awkward silence for a while. Kids gave us curious glances, probably wondering what a plain girl like me was doing walking next to a greek god. I don't blame them. I would too.
