Friendly Fire

The scent of gunpowder filled the air as I fired off my last two shots at the target ahead of me, my arms slightly bowed and my eyes squinted.

The Glock 17 I was gripping kicked back against my wrist as I pulled the trigger back-to-back, but I barely noticed with my sights trained on the human outline 20 feet away.

My lips curved as the bullets whistled through the paper target, both of them striking right through the head.

That was some badass shit.

"Are you sure you're not secretly a drug runner or some shit?" Casper muttered under his breath.

Making sure the safety was back on, I spun around to face Casper, laughing when I saw identical expressions of shock painted on all of the guys' faces.

That may or may not have been my 3rd round of hitting straight bullseye's.

We had been shooting for a couple of hours now, and the guys caught on pretty quickly that I could hold my own with a gun.

I was pretty nervous at first, not sure if I would do well since it had been so long. I guess my muscle memory held, though, because I had been shooting dimes since I picked up the Glock.

My father didn't know how to raise a daughter, but he sure knew how to teach her to shoot.

Hunter's skill had surpassed everyone, though. His aim and precision were like nobody else's as he landed every bullseye seamlessly. I didn't think watching him do target practice could turn me on, but the way his biceps tensed each time he gripped the gun had me feeling some type of way.

Yeah, I had problems.

Hunter was also the only person that didn't seem shocked by my skill. There was a slight measure of surprise etched across his face as I faced him, but it was far overpowered by the utter look of fascination taking over his expression.

Fascination and...desire.

I swallowed a nervous breath as I met his gaze, his eyes burning with heat and attraction as he looked at me with a wicked smile.

"And she continues to surprise me," Hunter murmured smokily.

Setting down the gun, I walked back to him with a dangerous grin on my face. Standing up on my tip-toes, I placed a hand against his ear and whispered, "Keep looking at me like that and you'll get an even better surprise tonight."

This time, he was the one swallowing a nervous breath.

It was quickly replaced with a wolfish smile, though, as he whispered back, "Fuck, Angel. You're in for a very long night."

My pulse pounded as I imagined just how long it would be, and a slight blush painted my face as I leaned back to face the rest of the guys. Hunter ran a hand over his face to hide his grin, but I was sure the guys could pick up on what we were talking about based on our expressions.

"I don't even wanna know what she just said to make Hunter smile that hard," teased Micah.

"I do," exclaimed Casper, looking between me and Hunter with child-like intrigue.

We all broke into laughter at that, Hunter and Micah shaking their heads with mock disapproval at Casper's shamelessness.

My laughter died down slowly as my eyes fell on Rico, who wasn't laughing with the rest of us but looking at me inquisitively.

Hunter picked up on his impassiveness as well, turning to him in question. "Rico, you good?"

Rico shifted his gaze from me to Hunter with a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "I'm good. Just curious, is all."
