Imagine leaving New York behind after a messy breakup, only to return five years later. Your old friends are happy, if a little nervous for any possible drama, but everything turns out well when they realize you're doing very well for yourself.

. .

. .

Being back in New York feels.. stuffy. You're no longer a fan of big cities such as this and it doesn't help that the last time you were here, you and Steve were messily breaking up. But Tony had finally asked Pepper to marry him and there was no way you were missing their very intimate ceremony. You had happily accepted their invite and then sheepishly asked if you could bring a plus one, and Tony was more than happy to oblige you.

However, the ceremony is still a couple days away, so you were meeting your friends at the same bar you all used to frequent when the team needed to unwind in between missions. But first, you were waiting for your plus one to park the car and meet you so you could enter the bar together.

"YN?"

Hearing your name, you turn and meet the gazes of your two best friends you had left behind- Peter and Wanda. Your eyes briefly widen before your lips stretch into a smile and then you're closing the distance between you to greet them properly. "Holy shit! Petey?! You've filled out." Wanda laughs as you pull Peter into a hug, smiling as you then move onto her. "And you! Is it just me or did you get hotter?"

The entire team had felt the awkwardness when you and Steve broke up, but while everyone chose to remain neutral it was Peter and Wanda who favored you over Steve. They were the two who told you about Steve and Sharon becoming an item only a couple of weeks after your break-up, and they were the same two who filled you in every time your ex and his new girlfriend called it quits every other month. For a while you were hurt and angry, but then you chose to focus on yourself and that turned out to be the best decision you ever made.

"You're still as weird as I remember," Wanda fondly muses. "I missed you. Video calls are just not the same."

"Ditto, friend." You glance between the two of them, glad that there is so awkwardness between the three of you. "So is everyone inside already? I was afraid of being late."

"I think so," Peter says. "Wanna head in?"

He moves to open the door for you, but you're quick to stall him. "I'm actually waiting for someone. He's parking the car around the corner, I think."

Wanda and Peter freeze, both smirking. "Is this your plus one?" She asks.

"Is he your boyfriend or something?"

You smile at them, chuckling. "Or something." Their amusement falters and you try your best not to wince. You really kept a lot from them these past five years and now you feel quite bad about it.

A moment passes and their gazes flicker over your shoulders.

"Holy hell. Who's this guy?" Peter quietly wonders. "He looks scary. This guy is definitely a felon." Without having to turn around, you know exactly who's walking up behind you. Tall, wild mane of hair down just passed shoulders, don't fuck with me vibes, and well defined muscles hidden beneath a Henley and dark washed jeans.

Wanda stares at him and then at you, and her eyebrow raises as she pieces together. "He yours?"

"He's mine." You nod, smile widening when you feel an arm drape across your shoulders. "Guys, meet Arthur." Their jaws drop and you can't help but laugh. Even Arthur chuckles and he reaches forward to shake their hands. "Arthur, these are my best friends Peter and Wanda."
