Hunter had stared at his letter for several minutes, debating if he wanted to read it or not. He had been a coward the last couple of days following what his older brothers believed instead of what he knew. He had let his beliefs and views be swayed and the ones who were injured because of it were the twins and Delia. And now Delia had left. Eventually Hunter plucked up the courage to read the letter. Biting his lip he broke the seal and pulled out the piece of paper.
Greetings Hunter,
You know by now that I left, I'm not coming back in the near future. You're probably think I hate you. I don't. I understand that you have tried to welcome and make us feel safe, your small actions spoke volumes about how you viewed us. For the first time in a long time I felt cared for and sheltered. I understand that you usually stay by yourself and go with the flow, I also understand that compared to Gracen and Daniel we mean much less to you, time let you build stronger bonds with them. You have tried to get through to them, but when it came to our mother your resolve weakened.
You are smart and observant, next time don't let your prejudice and feelings ruin that. When you panicked about me ignoring you, I knew that there was probably more to it than just wanting to hang out with your little sister. I have lived with our birth mother for years, I know she can be manipulative and cruel. When you feel comfortable you should talk to the twins, who knows you all might learn something.
However I will admit that you turning on me hurt.
Please be safe and help the twins. Don't break our trust a second time.
With a hopeful heart,
Delia
P.S. You still haven't come up with a nickname for me.
Hunter would have felt better if Delia had expressed her hatred and disappointment, if she had ranted. But his sweet little sister had praised, advised, supported, and comforted him. She only expressed her disappointment briefly and even went as far as to trust him with Artie and Drew. He knew how protective she was over them and even after his betrayal she still seemed to somehow place her trust in his character. The more he thought about it the worse he felt.
In his heart Hunter resolved to leave up to her expectations, part of that involved taking care and asking for forgiveness from the twins. Standing up he walking up to Drew's room he knocked in the door, when he got no response he cracked open the door.
"Drew? You in here?" when his questions got no answer he quickly searched through the rest of the room. When he didn't find him Hunter began to panic. Trying to calm himself down he took deep breathes, reminding himself that Drew was probably with Artie. Luckily when he opened Artie's door they were both inside. Drew and Artie's eyes were red when they turned to look towards him. Faced with their attention, Hunter gripped the letter even tighter in his hand. Swallowing heavily Hunter opened his mouth.
"I'm sorry." A sorry wasn't going to fix anything, but it was a good start.
