"Okay, are you going to tell me what's really going on?" Benjamin asks me as soon as Carina leaves the table to take a phone call.

"What do you mean?" I ask pretending I have no idea what he's talking about.

"Maya, you're acting weird, I thought she knew everything by now," Benjamin leans forward and lowers his voice. "I feel like you're testing me, should I say something different?"

"No, just the truth. I'm not very reliable right now," I say looking at Carina who is pacing in front of the bar, gesturing with her hands.

"Why? She still hasn't forgiven you?" Benjamin asks shaking his head. "It's not like you wanted to forget your wedding anniversary, you wanted to protect her."

I cover my head with my hands, I'm frustrated, why is it that I can't remember anything, nothing Benjamin is saying rings any bells, and it just confuses me. I forgot my wedding anniversary because I was trying to protect her, from what? Why did I have to keep everything a secret from her?

"I know you're probably still afraid of him, but Edwards says the kid is in jail now, he's not getting out."

I look up to Benjamin, what kid? Who the hell is Edwards? I don't care anymore, I think I can trust him, he needs to know I've lost almost three years of my life.

"Benjamin, I was in the hospital," I say looking at my hands.

"I know, but he's not going to hurt you or Carina, they've got him and since this was his second attempt to harm you and he has other charges, he's not getting out, you're safe."

"What are you talking about?" I ask completely lost. Nothing is making any sense.

"Opal's kid, have you talked to Edwards at all?"

As soon as I hear him say Opal, shivers travel down my spine.

"Opal as in the sex trafficker?" I manage to ask, nerves creeping up on me

"Maya?" Benjamin asks and I can hear the concern in his voice.

He extends his hand and reaches for mine, I let him take my hand while he strokes my arm with his other hand.

"The day I was flying to Italy, I got in an accident," I begin, my voice shaking a little. "I have retrograde amnesia."

Benjamin stops stroking my arm but doesn't let go of my hand, he frowns confused by my revelation.

"My last memory is from October 2020, everything after that is gone, I didn't want to tell you because I don't know you," I shrug. "Well, I did, but now I can't remember and when I woke up a few days ago, I found out I'm separated, and I abandoned my team."

"Oh, Maya, I'm sorry," Benjamin says stroking my hand. "I had no idea."

"What is it about Opal, is Carina in danger?" I immediately ask, I don't care for his sympathy right now, I need straight answers before Carina comes back.

"No, not anymore, Opal died in prison," Benjamin says lowering his voice. "She had a son, and well, I don't know how but he found out you were somehow involved in Opal's case and he threaten you."

"Did he hurt her?" I ask scared.

"No, I don't think he ever got to her, the second time he approached you he put you in the hospital, you were on your way to tell Carina to be careful because you weren't together anymore."

"Oh, crap," I say passing my hand through my hair.

"I don't know if you've noticed yet, but he left you some scars," Benjamin says pointing at my arms.
