"We'll bake it tomorrow," Carina says closing the fridge.

"I don't remember how was Angela as my teacher, but I bet you're much better," I say wrapping my arms around Carina's waist from her back.

"You're only saying that because you love me," Carina says, turning around, wrapping her arms around my neck.

I smile widely and lean in to kiss my wife, her soft lips against mine making me feel at home.

Carina's phone goes off and I groan pulling my head back. I don't want her to have to go to the hospital, we have so much to talk about.

"I have to take this, it'll be fast," Carina says looking at her screen.

I nod and walk to the bathroom to give her some privacy and also take my pills. While I'm in there I can hear her now in our bedroom giving some instructions. I'm almost praying  this isn't an emergency, I have no idea who she's talking to but I'm a little anxious wondering if it's Dr. Santos again.

When I open the bathroom door, I see Carina bend over plugging her phone next to the bed, she's changed her clothes and now she's only wearing a large t-shirt, I can't help but admire her beautiful long legs, I can't even remember what I was thinking before seeing her like this.

"Everything okay?" Carina asks as she stands up and raises her eyebrows.

"Um..." I clear my throat, trying to focus on what I was going to ask. "Was that about a patient?"

"It was," Carina nods. "The nurse just had some questions."

"You don't have to go, do you? I thought..."

"I don't have to be anywhere but here," Carina interrupts me as she gets closer and tucks my hair behind my ears. "All of my patients are being taken care of."

"Good," I exhale, feeling relieved.

"Yeah, it's been a tough week," Carina says calmly while she takes a step back to go to the bathroom leaving the door open behind her.

"I talked to Gabriella yesterday," I say looking at her through the mirror.

"You did?" Carina turns around in surprise with her toothbrush in hand. "Why?"

"I found some texts, she was supposed to pick me up from the airport in Italy."

Carina frowns while she keeps brushing her teeth.

"I don't know why, but it seems like she wanted to help me, well, us," I shrug and I sit on the edge of the bed. "She told me about the day she gave you the news about my accident and then she asked me to not be stupida and fight for you."

"Of course she did," Carina chuckles after spitting the remains of toothpaste from her mouth.

"I'm glad she likes me better than your boyfriend," I blurt out. I didn't plan it to come out of my mouth that way, but it did.

"Maya," Carina gets closer to me and tilts her head. "He's not my boyfriend."

"Ex-boyfriend, partner, is the same to me," I say with resentment. "You didn't want to kiss me because of him."

"That's not the reason," Carina coldly says, taking a step back.

"You just wouldn't do to him what you did to me," I say with bitterness. I may not remember seeing them kissing, but just the thought of it angers me and Carina seems to not want to give anything away.

"That's not fair Maya," Carina points at me. "I've told you it was a mistake and I wasn't trying to hurt you."

The room fills with silence, Carina puts her arms on her waist and looks up trying to calm herself.
