As soon as I stepped on the camp my friends, Joan, Gary, Cindy and Tommy greeted me, I saw that Tommy's arm was around Cindy's waist, and when I say that I used all divine forces to not vomit in front of them, I'm not kidding. Of all people, I had to fall for a straight girl, and she's literally dating my friend, I'm a dumbass. Cindy suddenly hugged me, very tightly, making me get a little flustered.
"I missed you." she says against my chest, and I stay wondering if she can hear the quick pace of my heartbeats.
"I missed you too." I say while lifting her with all of my strenght. She lets out a little scream and hits me.
"Cassie! Cassie put me down!" Cindy orders and I just laugh.
"Not happening." I put her on my shoulder like a sack of potatoes and walked to my cabin. My bag was on my left hand while I was carrying Cindy on my right shoulder, I could hear her complaining a few times and hitting me but I just laughed.
"I swear to God Cassie I will murder you!" I chuckle.
"Yeah, yeah..Right. You're literally smaller than me, what are you going to do? Hit my knee?" I joke and she hits me again, but harder. Ouch, she really didn't like my joke. As I enter my cabin, which is the same as Cindy's, I put her down, she looks at me pissed and hits me.
"Damn woman, what's up with all the violence? " I joke and she looks at me, pissed.
"I forgive you if you help me clean the Mess Hall today." She says while looking at me with those puppy eyes. I look at her and sigh, thinking if it was really worth it.
"Okay. Fine." I answer, defeated, trying not to look annoyed because of the fact that I'll need to see Tommy and Cindy together.
"Thank you." she smiles, kissing me on the cheek and leaves the cabin.
Me and Cindy have been friends since 8th grade, at first I only saw her as a friend but in 9th grade, everything changed, as puberty came, unrequited feelings came too, I completely fell in love with that girl and I couldn't act on my feelings, because you know... homophobia. So later on, Tommy and Cindy got together, and I had to watch Tommy make the girl I fell in love with, happy.
.-.
Fucking sunnyvailers. I thought as I ran to Ziggy, I saw her on the hanging tree with Sheila and her puppets.
"Sheila!" I screamed and she looked at me, scared, she knows she's fucked because I'm not like those Sunnyvalers counselors. "Put that fucking lighter down!" She immediately stopped and got embarrassed, for she got caught. I usually didn't get pissed 'cause I hate wasting my time being angry but sometimes these preppy assholes can really hit on my nerves. Ziggy falls on the dirt and I quickly grab her and make sure she's okay. "That's a strike for you Sheila, and don't even think to do anything to her again or else I'll tell everyone about your first week here at camp, don't you remember?" I threatened her and she doesn't say anything, I take Ziggy to the infirmary and when we got there nurse Lane wasn't there.
"Nurse Lane!" I speak in a high tone.
"Nurse Lane, hello! I'm in trouble again help." Ziggy calls for Nurse Lane too but there's no response. I walk into the infirmary rooms looking for her but see no one. "Nurse Lane come on, I can die at any minute now." The red head says impatiently and looks around. Lane's office door is slightly open, me and Ziggy look at each other uncertain of what to do, me and her slowly walk towards the door, pushing it. There's no one there.
"What's this?" I frown in confusion, looking at some kind of book with a creepy symbol.
"Teenager fillets friends, the witches mark." Ziggy reads.
"What are you doing?" Me and Ziggy both gasp and turn around.
"Oh my God!" I say.
"Nurse Lane, you scared the shit out of us." Ziggy says. Miss Lane doesn't say anything and looks at us startled, I feel like something is wrong with her. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah." she answers. "Oh my goodness...Ziggy, Ziggy, Ziggy..What did we do now?" She says looking at Ziggy's burn.
"It was those spoiled Sunnyvalers, but I teached them a lesson." I say and Nurse Lane just nods. "Okay so, you're in safe hands now, I need to look for Cindy." Ziggy rolls her eyes as I mention her sister's name. "Have a good day Nurse Lane!" I smile as I leave the infirmary. I walk around the camp and I look for Cindy, last time I saw her she was cleaning the bathroom with Tommy, as I reached the bathroom I only see Tommy there.
"Yo Tommy!" I call him and he looks at me. "Where's Cindy?"
"She went looking for Alice and Arnie." He answers and I nod. I went to Alice's cabin and as I opened the door I see Cindy, Alice and Arnie and a huge smell of weed.
"Cassie, nice seeing you here." Alice greets me while smoking the joint in her mouth. Cindy turns around and looks at me in relief.
"Thank God you're here Cassie, they litterally refuse to work and we need the Mess Hall and the Outhouse clean by today." Cindy leans into me irritated, seeing her irritated is very funny if I'm being honest.
"I mean, it's been years that we've been here working as counselours and I've never seen any of them really doing their job." I scratch the back of my neck, afraid of her response. Cindy looks at me in disapproval and I try my best not to laugh. "What? I'm just being honest." I defend myself, containing my laughter. Alice and Arnie burst out laughing, probably because they're so high right now.
"Want a hit?" Alice asks me, handing me the joint.
"Nah, I don't touch any of that shit now." I decline her offer.
"Really?" She asks surprised and I nod. "Wow, you really went from coke is my breakfast to I'm Cindy Berman 2.0." She jokes and I roll my eyes.
"Wait, you've done drugs?" Cindy asks, staring at me.
"Yeah, but that's like... in the past now." I say uncomfortable because of the subject and she looks at me disapointed.
"Cassie, if you get us some yellow jackets and red birds from Nurse Lane, I can scrub all the shit Cindy wants." Alice offers me smiling and I sigh.
"What?" Cindy asks, confused.
"Drugs, baby. Drugs. " Arnie says.
"No, Cassie, you won't.." Cindy starts talking.
"Okay, if I get that for you...You guys will do anything Cindy asks for?" I ask and they nod. "Then it's a deal." I finish.
"Cassie, no. What if you get caught? I can't let you do that for me." The short girl steps in front of me, clearly worried.
"Berman, it's fine. I've done this thousands of times, I'm gonna be okay...I promise." I try to calm her and put my hand on her shoulder.
"Dude, you're so whipped." Alice jokes while looking at me.
"Shut up." I say sternly as I widen my eyes at her, and Cindy looks at me weirdly.
"What? It's true, literally everyone knows that you got a crush on..."
"Alice." I say sternly and she stops talking.
"Who? Crush on who?" Cindy asks, confused.
"No one, Alice's just joking." I respond, and grab her hand so we can leave.
"Oh you know her very well." Alice answers bluntly while hitting the joint, I mutter a fuck while I rub my hand on my face.
"Her?" Cindy raises her voice and looks at me disgusted.
"Alice, please stop."
"Okay fine, whatever." She says and then clicks on the radio, Cherry Bomb starts playing. I quickly leave their cabin and start cursing under my breath, irritated with their actions. It was not their place to tell that shit, I was supposed to carry that shit to the grave and Cindy Berman should never know that the nice girl from Shadyside has been completely in love with her since 9th grade.
"Hey Cass!" Cindy calls me but I keep walking. "Cassie wait!" She grabs my arm and forces me to look at her, I sigh and refuse to make eye contact with the girl. "Can we talk?"
