"wake up lazy." a girls voice said. you woke up, not in toms arms. in fact, tom wasn't even in the room. it was just you and bernadine.
"5 more minutes." you slurred. she slapped her face and laughed. "it's literally noon." she said in between giggles.
you immediately sat up and opened your eyes wide.
"ok i'm up i'm up." you yawned. bernadine put a comforting hand on your shoulder and sighed. "do you- do you wanna talk about it?" she quietly asked. you shook your head back and forth. she nodded and smiled a pained smile.
"cmon, everyone's gone. and i made pancakes!" she excitedly squealed. you laughed and threw your head back. you groaned and swung your feet over the bed and got to your feet.
"where is everyone?" you asked, rubbing your face in fatigue. "pretty sure they had a meeting with some they're trying to get to speak a witness." she replied with a shrug.
"ok, i'm gonna put better clothes on real quick." you giggled. she nodded and skipped out the door.
you took off your floral shirt and skirt, throwing them across the room. you went through bernadines dresser drawer, in search for a long shirt. you pulled out a peach colored one. it was big, baggy and long and had a cartoon earth on it that said "urth". you sighed and pulled it over your head. it would have to do.
you walked out to see bernadine sitting at the counter, eating her pancake. "i was gonna wait for you, but i got hungry." she said, mouth full of food. you laughed and took a seat next to her.
"oh and by the way, you don't have to worry about the boys asking away about what happened. tom gave all of us a lecture about what happened and to not mention it unless she, meaning you, does." bernie informed. your stomach tingled and you blushed a bit. that was nice of him.
you finished your food quickly, judging by the fact that it was noon and you still hadn't eaten anything.
"ok now i wanna take you shopping. your in need of some fun." she explained. you nodded.

you pulled on your yellow sweater, pairing it with overalls and your combat boots, which you've had forever.bernadine INSISTED on braiding your hair, claiming that it was "too messy". after she gave you two loose braids, you both trudged out the door.
bernadine had her own car, which was a blue volkswagen beetle. it was very her. you listened to the radio on the way to downtown chicago, belting various songs by the beatles.
once you arrived bernadine parked on the side of the road, which you thought was really risky in a city like this. but she, apparently, did that all the time. if it gets broken into or stolen, she can't say you didn't tell her so!
she took you to all of her favorite places to shop. but, after awhile of trying on various outfit combinations, and a lot of guilt from bernadine buying a bunch of clothes for you, you guys took a break. it was about 3 now.
bernadine took you to her favorite bakery/coffee shop, called "chaplins". she knew some of the employees, so you got to have coffee on the house.
you gossiped and laughed for about an hour. talking about her crush on abbie, about your "crush" on tom, etc. just girl stuff.
"we should go, i wanna get a few more stores in before it gets dark." bernadine said, standing up and picking up all her bags, you following suit.
"let's go toss these in the car before my arms fall off." she suggested, gesturing to our many shopping bags. so, you walked to the car and shoved all your clothes in the trunk.
