Chapter 19
Michaela
When the van comes to a stop the man that left the mark on my arm comes back and chains my wrists together. He pushes me out of the back of the van. He still keeps a hold of the chains and holds me close to his own body. When we step out of the van either side of me are two long lines of shifters standing with their hands behind their backs. The corridor of bodies leads to two heavy, metal doors. As the man pushes me down towards the doors I have a moment to see where I am exactly.
The building is surrounded with a high fence topped with barbed wire. I purse my lips against the duct tape still covering my mouth as the man drops my wrists and holds the chain around my waist instead, forcing me to walk a little further in front of him.
As we get further down the path the shifters of every shape and size lock their eyes on me as if I were their prey. When we reach the door I feel the man loosen his grip on the chain around my waist as he turns his attention to unlocking the door.
That’s when I run.
I manage to get my way past the line of shifters and am almost home free before I feel something thud against my back and it makes me drop to the ground.
My head hits the ground as the animal’s claws scratch my upper arm before the mass is lifted from my back.
“You idiot.” I hear the man yell at the huge cat creature that hastily runs away from us. The man mutters swear words under his breath as he lifts me by the chain around my waist. My head throbs from where it hit the floor as I feel a hot liquid run from my forehead down to my chin before I see the red drip onto the concrete floor I stand on.
Rubbing his thumb across the cut on my head then running it over the slashes through my clothing on my upper arm, causing a subtly pain to coarse its way through my body. I don’t have time to wince or do anything about it as the man starts to drag me back towards the doors and through them into the building.
The corridors in the building are silent and almost hospital like. He stops at a metal door while still holding onto the chains around my stomach as he places his forearm on a glass panel which a green light illuminates it. When the light fades away the numbers that are imprinted on his arm are displayed on a small screen before the door slides open.
I’m pushed through into the room where the man lets go of my chains and two women strap my legs and arms to a table. They shine a bright light in my face before one looks towards the man and coughs, at this he turns around. Just as my eyes become adjusted to the light I feel something metallic pierce my clothing. The women use scissors to strip the hoodie, shorts and tights from my body. Leaving me lying on the cold table in just my underwear as both women walk towards the cupboard in the corner of the room. When they return to me they hold between them a jumpsuit with the arms ripped off so only a tiny bit of the sleeve is left. They unzip the suit and manage to wrap it around my body by unchaining and chaining one limb at a time so that I am always restrained. The black clothing fits perfectly on me, hugging my body closely. It is covered in pockets but all of them remain empty.
Both of the women look down at me and then exchange a look between them. One of the women places the tips of her fingers at the edge of the duct tape covering my mouth. She rips the tape from my face causing my eyes to water and my lips tingle at the sticky material being brutally removed from my skin. The woman throws the tape onto the floor and they both wear the same devilish smile, showing their gleaming white teeth. All I can do is lay there and stare at them as the smaller of the two women grabs a syringe from the table beside me and jabs it into my arm.
