Thanks to your brother and also dad, there were people with certain jobs you didn't want to date. These included police officers, doctors, lawyers or firefighters. It's those professions where having relationships wasn't exactly easy.
Your father was a patrolman and your brother, in the oh-so-great Intelligence Unit. Usually, at least that's what you would think, the 'ordinary' police officer's everyday life should be enough, because there alone, enough could happen, but how often, you had seen Adam or his colleagues with injuries in recent years and told yourself that you do not want to participate.
And thanks to the two of them, you had also seen how it really was with doctors, lawyers and firefighters. So do you have to do that to yourself? No. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Not at all.
Today had proven it once again. After there had been a fire, the Intelligence had been called there and Adam said you could come along. Why? With his younger sister, it wouldn't be a problem if she came along, if only because Intelligence was his family, too.
Did you want to? Not necessarily. If you had wanted to go to crime scenes, you wouldn't have gone to the city government to work as a city planner.
"Are you about to change jobs?" you were greeted good-humoredly by Kim, who had finished interviewing a witness.
"If the pay was right, yes," you countered, taking your brother's ex in your arms in greeting, "For the money you're getting and what you have to perform, I say no thanks. I'd rather have building permits."
"Like Adam would let you be a cop," Kim laughed, taking with him behind the barrier so you wouldn't have to stand with passersby.
One hundred percent was, however Adam couldn't do anything about it if that was the case.
